City of phila cancels eagles game
A friend of mine who works in a high level position in the City of Philadelphia managing directors office called me on Friday nite and says that if it snows more than 6 inches on Sunday, that they are prepared to postpone the game to Monday nite. He said this meeting took place on Thursday afternoon but they were not going to involve the NFL or NBC in reference to the meeting until Sunday. Here are the reasons why.
1. The city has their annual Mummers day parade next Saturday and they did not want to have to pay any more OT today to the massive army of city workers it would have taken for snow removal in the stadium. There was discussion to bring in a smaller type crew (50% less than what would be needed in situation like this) but then they were worried would their image would be like on national TV. 2. The decision not to involve the NFL or NBC until today was because they thought they could hold both the NFL and NBC hostage by telling them that they did not have enough funds but would be willing to pay a third of the costs if the NFL and NBC would chip in the other 2/3'ds of the funds required. They figured by waiting until last minute today, that there would be no way that NBC or the NFL would not agree to their proposal. 3. The city of Phila was pissed big time a few weeks ago when this game was changed to primetime because they always have to spend more when the games are prime time. (not sure why) 4. If they did not agree, at least the City wouldnt have to pay OT because Mon (or now Tuesday) would be regular time workdays for all the city workers that would be involved in the clean up. So all this talk about safety for the fans is BS.. I can gurantee you that if this was an indoor stadium game that there is no way that this would even be a discussion. My son and I went to a Flyers game on a Saturday last December and it was the same situation in the middle of a 20+ inch snowfall. Not even discussion abouth cancelling that game. Another example of politics screwing up sports. |

That seems like some good inside info!
Doesn't change much for us, but interesting, nonetheless.
