Decertification...

Couldn't owners just start to require whatever they want out of the players now without the union? An example would be to require them to workout and train at the team facilities. Treat them like an actual employee and make it miserable on them or does the players contract come into play then?

I realize they get their paychecks during the season but couldn't an owner just decide to pay them every two weeks or monthly.

The averaage NFl player lasts 3 years in the NFl

Most of us just see the top players who average
only over 10 years making mils , but dont see the guys
cut after 3 years , or who play college for 4 y years
don't make it etc

Look at another league like NBA

Their contracts are "guaranteed" for 5 years

If Big P is drafted to Cali for 5 yers , doen't want so play ,
he can sit out , not play and get paid for it.

Wait to become free agent and have Cali "Buy himOUT"
to be traded

In NFl if A player signs 5 mil dr ,
can get cut after 1 yr if injured ,

compensation for the other 4 years ?

Just because he was sked to do his job..

not sure where you are going with this kramer. this model is part of reason why NFL works and more teams are competitive year in and year out.

Your suggestion is to pay a player on a multi billion dallar industry
a two week or mothly salry ..

So if i Sign a 5 yr contract , get injured after my first week ,
then what happens if i signed for 5 years for 50 mil ?

( say $ 25 mil suaranteed up front?)

Now we have 5 years of possible performances bonuses ,
etc ...

In my job i'm paid an "Annual" salary ,
with an annual reiviw ,

not sure bout rest of mallers

got it. it would work the same way wouldn't it? if the money isn't guaranteed they get their annual salary divided by remaining months of the year.

wouldn't happen but was just curious if owners could force that for players under contract.

HA

that would between a lawyer for the player,
and a lawyer for the NFL
to decide "what exacatly does "guaranteed" mean?

no expert here,

no, it's not gonna work that way... the point of decertification was to be able to sue the owners under anti-trust law instead of labor law

"In exchange for giving up their rights under labor law, the players are able to take their chances in court under antitrust law."

NFLPA decertifies, files antitrust suit against league - ESPN

so now the owners are gonna have to fight anti-trust litigation, which apparently is a lot "heavier"- potentially much greater penalties if they lose- than they would face if sued by a union under labor law

so the players are breaking the union so they can play their strongest card- suing the NFL as a monopoly according to anti-trust laws

i think i have that right

the owners aren't gonna be making any new rules, and nobody would care if they did right now- all that kind of stuff will get sorted out after the courts decide whatever they decide, and then the union and the owners negotiate a new deal based on the courts' decisions... and new rules like what you're saying won't be a part of anything the players agree to without some kind of compensation for them
