Exclamation DOES VEGAS SET TRAP LINES IN NFL myth or FACT ?

Next time someone tells you trap lines don’t exist in pro football betting, tell that jackass you know better!

LISTEN to me peeps i visit Vegas often me and my friends one other feamle and 5 guys all are considered players not squares !

any way even tho this article is on another site I'm showing YOU how vegas operates NFL and college they really set lines that squares just walk right into !

I would tell anyone who listened that there was no such thing as a fishy line or a spread where the books were begging you to bet one side. Bookmakers, in my mind, just wanted two-way action and were happy to live off the juice.

But my world was rocked earlier this fall when oddsmaker Bob Scucci told listeners on Chad Millman’s podcast that he does set lines sometimes knowing he’s going to get more money on one side than the other.

As with any UFO sighting, you’ve got to go straight to the source, so I called Scucci to give him a chance to back pedal on all this trap line foolishness.

“We’ve got opinions on games and we’ll take a stand on some of them,” the Coast Casinos director of race and sports told me. “That’s how we make our money.”

I thought Scucci was pulling a Palin and going maverick, but other Vegas oddsmakers told me the same thing.

“Ninety percent of the time it’s not two-way action,” Hilton Las Vegas sportsbook manager Jay Kornegay ( we know him very well we play there often) said with little prying on my part. “We’ve got to make decisions on those games.”

By decisions, Kornegay means whether to move the line or stay put. He has to decide whether he feels like his book is on the right side of an unbalanced handle. In other words, does he think his book will win the game or will the bettors take him to the cleaners?

“Anytime you’ve got a good team on the road as a short favorite,” Scucci said. “We know the public will see it as an opportunity to get the better teams at a cheaper price and we see the home side as live dogs.”

There are two, clear cases of entrapment on this week’s NFL betting board: Packers (-5.5) at San Diego and Niners (-4) at Washington. It’s clear the bookies are welcoming action on San Fran and Green Bay.

“Looks like we’ll be rooting for San Diego on Sunday,” Bert Osborne, sportsbook boss at South Point said.

I asked him if he knew he’d be rooting for the Chargers as soon as he opened Packers -5.5 and all he said was, “Yup”.

IF YOU doubt this as truth IF you ever Visit las Vegas watch the sharps at the windows the real players who mostly use beards to get money down on a game !

Talk to the ticket takers they are very friendly and will point you in right direction to ask questions

Head lines man sometimes are unapproachable but if your not a bettor in sports or heavy hitter they may say certain games that day they might get killed on !

SO just letting YOU know people beware of heavy line moves on game day something is up when you see spreads move in favor of home chalk and most money is on other side hard to spot it happening but some websites show it

heres one from LVH Hilton super contest that put up real numbers !

Sportsbooks can't live on even money on both sides, making only 10% each week does not pay the bills. They do have games that they have a real good feeling on the outcome and they will set a line for them to win big. That is a rare occassion though. Believe it or not the most profitable item for sportsbooks is parlay cards. One loss blows the whole card.

All the books in Vegas or offshore pretty well deal the same line and when one moves they all move. No thing as a trap game. Denver-Detroit last week and SF-Wash this week were supposedly trap games with 2 superior teams being small favs. Both covered. We hear Bob Scucci up here on a Sunday morning radio capping program and he often says they want the dogs to win because so many are playing parlay cards and bet the favorites heavily.

I'm not entirely sure why people look for conspiracy at every turn, i guess its like religion and gives people something to hold onto that they cant explain. Gambling is a business of math, the people that understand it are that 1% that the american public are so pissed at. The world is such a small place with the internet, odds and lines that are made are generally universal within a small variance at every casino, lottery outlet and website available and the notion that there is a grand scheme that gets people to bet a certain way is ridiculous to the point of almost not even being able to argue it....that being said it obviously happens that lines open at one number get played heavily and move before game time to offset the unexpected number of wagers placed on it, proline takes things off the books etc and I fully understand the cause and effect of this action but I dont think that is what is being discussed in this thread.

We all do our own capping and look for an edge through a community of knowledge and sharing, its a lot of fun and I think it makes us all a little more profitable. No offense intended to anyone on this site but I dont think Vegas is calling any of us to set their lines for them, that being said there is a formula that is generally accepted that gives everyone an idea of the capping of a game, 3 points to home teams credence given to injury, relevant history etc...this formula in a refined system produces the line that everyone uses for us to bet on and the math really does sort itself out to a profitable business to the people that hold the books and make the smart bets

Call me Naive but thats the way the whole thing makes sense to me

BRAVO Kermit love the little guy too ! Wish they had have him in X rated video with MIss Piggy LOL think it would be hilarious !

I was just stating the the story i read on another site ! THEY try to set trap lines to get money on other side BUT actually i folllow line movement and real live wagering of joe square LIKE Two weeks ago MNF Ravens at jaguars lopsided Ravens action 80% spread moved 2 1/2 points higher dis favor ravens !

BOY did Vegas smile when jaguars pulled off the upset win

However the cried when Packers won and covered and it flew overs yesterday

65% on Packers and Overs Teasers also hit both sides Chargers + 11 1/2
Packers
+ 1/2 OVER 44

however GB is going to have trouble when they meet up with top tier QB's they better fix that leaky defense this is worse than the saints defense when NO won superbowl that year

I don't believe in "trap lines" other than teams are rated fairly close than they factor in "homefield" and you end up with a 2-5 team favored by 1 point over a 4-3 team or a 6-1 team on the road favored by 2 over a 3-4 team. And because of the "Won Loss" records the action is one-sided even though the teams and stats are pretty close.

Oh yeah they can..I did for almost 25 years and retired at 43 years old to homes in Vegas, Naples Florida, and the exclusive foothills outside of Denver. And from Las Vegas to Timbucktu the opening line is the opening line everywhere..Local Bookmakers don't set their own that is much different from anyone elses. Maybe a 1/2 point

And after reading the first sentance in the OP's post I determined the poster is a wanna be punk, not a player like he says

FYI guys..Be careful of who you interact with here because there's a lot of bad advice coming from questionable sources happenin

YES beejmi i agree however they have to move spreads when lopsided action happens
still in the end vegas wins out it's not just football action every week every damn sport is bet on in Vegas it's really a supermarket for bettors
HOCKEY GOLF NASCAR TENNIS SOCCER NCAA NFL BASKETBALL womens and mens both

I do belive in TRAP games which can spotted early reading teams schedules
i spooted the trap game for chiefs two div wins raiders Chargers
non div foe at home miami followed by Broncos

however did not expect that blow out 31-3 by dolphins figured a TD win by miami or close 2 - 3 point game

The Bookmakers do not handicap anything but the publics perception. and the 10% is like a licesnse to print money..And don't get me started on Parlay Cards. If someone hands you one and tells you to play it, they are insulting you. They might as well have a gun in their hand and be and asking you for your wallet.

Wake up kids

I doubt that westernplayboy i know how they handicap every game a team of number crunchers every day sit in a room then they add in injuriest thing is public perception
IF it was just public perception only that they handicapped BOY Vegas would be out of bussiness fast !

SURE maybe you had your own book and knew when you had losers all your squares hit the wrong side !

OUR Local dosen't allow us to bet more than $300 on any game now and we are down to only ONE sports book 5 Dimes and we fear they too will pulling out of U S market soon as GOV't starts getting after them !

FOOK FOOK FOOK forcing us to bet with a Local again !

NO way we will set up a proxy in Vegas and do it that way !
