Eagles Trade for LT Jason Peters

Congrats to Philly. Good way to solidify the O-Line.

He'll cost Philly the #28 pick in the 1st round, their 4th round pick, and a conditional pick in 2010.

Seems a bit of a price to pay, but they needed help on the O-Line. They still need help in the backfield and at WR.

that almost def means that they wont get boldin. does seem like they gave up alot. not sure i really care about this deal.

so we can now protect the qb better to throw to no wr's.

I don't think they gave up too much. The first round pick they're trading is the one they got from Carolina so that Carolina could select Jeff Otah. A fourth-round pick is basically a crap-shoot, and the 2010 pick is in the 6th round. Peters is a very good, young left tackle who will make the running game better and keep McNabb upright.

It is a really good add for the Eagles, and I agree that they gave up a fair price as outlined above - they would not have gotten any LT better at pick #28 and a 4th round pick is a crap shoot.

Marra- Interesting to hear a Bill's fan perspective on this.

SMac- agreed on your notion that they still need a WR. I would be very happy if they still went after Boldin and their GM Heckert (who is an idiot) was on sports radio and did not discount they may still trade their other fist round pick (for a player). But I doubt they will.

But they still have a very good pick at #21, I just hope they use it on a RB, WR, or TE (Pettigrew). Heckert seemed to really like him. But who knows with this organization.

At this point they have had a good off season (despite Dawkins, but that still may work out okay), but they have to complete it by adding those remaining pieces. Their problem in the past is that they have not gone the extra mile. Obtaining Boldin would not only energize this city like 2004, but also make them a legit contender. And if he cost their first and a third they could still use their second round pick on a RB or TE.

But their history points to them not getting that extra knockout piece- the one year they did (TO in 2004) worked out pretty well. And a player like Boldin obviously does not have TO's downside.

^^^^^^

I think the lack of receiver is more a product of Andy Reid. He's a pure west coast offense guy. The west coast offense doesn't require that stud WR and Reid is sticking to it.

I agree though. If the Eagles get Bolden or even Braylon Edwards they'd have to be in the running as the favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.

I am going to assume not many of you actually watched him play last year. He was pretty much a big pylon that was getting beat on a consistent basis. I think as the year goes on the Philly fans are going to love this guy when he constantly gets called for procedure, gets beat on the rush and ends up with a holding penalty.

The guys at 550 AM in Buffalo were saying that he got beaten for more sacks than anyone else at left tackle last year.

I can't say I did watch him much last year (he gave up 11 sacks apparently, while the Eagles LT Thomas gave up only 2) but he is a 2-time Pro Bowler, will be playing under a very good O-line coach, and if Ray Didinger thinks he is one of the best LTs in the game I will take his word for it. They don't always go the extra mile, but the Eagles are pretty good about picking those players for re-tooling. Again, he would (probably) be better than anyone at #28, and he will be protecting a QB who is still agile enough and strong enough to avoid some of those sacks.
