Ex Charger Kiel Dead

SAN DIEGO (AP)—Former Chargers safety Terrence Kiel was killed after he was thrown from a Chevy sedan he was driving, police said Saturday.

Kiel, 27, was driving alone after leaving a party at about 10:15 Friday night when he hit a wall in San Diego’s upscale Scripps Ranch neighborhood and was thrown from the car, police Sgt. Alan Hayward said.

Kiel was barely breathing when paramedics reached him and he died about an hour later, Hayward said.

Friends had tried to keep Kiel from driving home from the party, Hayward said, and witnesses told police he appeared to be driving in the wrong direction when he crashed.

Police would not know whether Kiel had been under the influence of drugs or alcohol until toxicology tests were performed, Hayward said.

A second-round draft pick out of Texas A&M in 2003, Kiel played four years in the NFL from 2003-2006, all with the Chargers.

In February 2007 he pleaded guilty to felony and misdemeanor drug charges for shipping prescription cough syrup to Texas, the most significant of several scrapes with the law.

He was released by the team after his plea.

Kiel had been led off the practice field and arrested in the locker room by Drug Enforcement Administration agents in September 2006, suspected of shipping at least two parcels of prescription cough syrup, apparently to be mixed with soft drinks to make a concoction known as “lean.”

The felony charges were later dropped after he completed community service, and he was serving three years probation for the misdemeanor charges.

He was cited for urinating in public outside a San Diego nightclub in January 2007, but the city dropped that charge.

I guess some guys just don't get it.....live by the sword and die by the sword....sad to die so young

Just another example of what the NFL is rapidly becoming. Give these idiots a few bucks and this is what happens. The gross stupidity in sports is rather unbelieveable.

This is true, but look at his history. A form of drug dealing, former arrests, and the like. All I am saying is that there has been a sharp increase in the number of NFL players finding themselves in trouble or being killed. Obviously this was a case of a drunk, not belting himself up, and killing himself. While this does happen a lot, the alarming rate of professional athletes that are losing their jobs, their freedom, and their lives because of off field incidents must be noticed. These players were allegedly bright enough to get into college. You have to wonder what happened to them.

I about died on the 4th as well this year. Telephone pole, flip twice, drop 12 feet into a creek. Almost drowned when the car pressed my face into the creek for over a minute , and then have to get the car cut in half to free my leg once I got my head out of water miraculously. On top of that when they pulled the driver out they tipped the car's weight onto me enough to crack my ribs. Lucky to be here. Laying in bed eating percocet for my ribs.

So, it can happen to ANYONE. NFL players aren't that smart, but you don't have to be stupid or smart to have a tragedy happen. Just because Kiel made some bad choices does not mean he deserved death. I am a law student and far from stupid. This SHOULD have been me, but someone was watching over me so think before you open your mouth.

The author who included that he was cited for public urination at the end of his article about a man who just died should be ****ing ass raped for claslessness. He is just as big a piece of shit. How the **** was a stupid urination charge pertinent to the loss of a ****ing life.

RIP
