GFX's CHICAGO WEATHER UPDATE THREAD - CHICAGO VS NEW ENGLAND
First report now that we are 48 hours away from the game:
From NOAA.gov: Saturday Night: Freezing drizzle likely before midnight, then snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 19. Blustery, with a southwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming northwest between 20 and 25 mph. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Sunday: A 50 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 20. Very windy, with a north northwest wind 25 to 30 mph increasing to between 35 and 40 mph. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph. ...LOOKING INTO THE LONGER TERM...THE MAIN CONCERN WILL BE TEMPERATURES. ARCTIC HIGH PRESSURE WILL QUICKLY BUILD ACROSS THE AREA BEHIND THE COLD FRONT. LOW SUNDAY MORNING WILL DROP BACK INTO THE TEENS AND UPPER SINGLE DIGITS. THROUGH THE DAY SUNDAY...STRONG COLD ADVECTION WILL ALLOW FOR LITTLE DAYTIME WARMING AND HIGHS WILL ONLY BE IN THE TEENS FOR MOST LOCATIONS. Comments: The over under has come down now to 39.5 at most places, and the juice on the 3 line is also moving. Most lines around -3 -110 or so now, some are -3 -105. Snowy, windy and very cold with wind chills in the negatives most likely. If the wind gets high enough obviously...passing games are greatly affected, turning the game into a short pass and run/defensive game. Chicago is slightly protected from colder temperatures by the lake (5 degrees or so) but the stadium is setup to get blasted by very high winds which will take away from any benefits of the slightly warmer weather. Regardless of what changes you should expect a much more difficult passing game for both teams. Please feel free to update and comment as you choose. |

Bungholes vs Steelers weather update......
Meteorologist Lee Hendricks said the rain will start Sunday morning and transform into snow as temperatures hover in the mid-30s. Accumulation Sunday afternoon should be around an inch.
Winds will pick up Sunday afternoon, gusting to around 20 mph, and worsening into the night. Snow will continue overnight Sunday and into the Monday rush hour, when winds could reach 30 miles per hour. The total accumulation is hard to predict at this point, but the potential exists for six inches or more of snow postgazette

Line report: Over under bottomed out around 37.5 at most places, 38 at a few. It looks like 38ish is the number settled upon. The line/juice moved to NE -3 +110 or in most places something under -3. No injury changes so the line change is some reflection of bettors believing that Chicago may benefit from the weather. The "true" betting exchange line right now is right around -2.75 (averaged, not a line offered obv).
Live Report (GFX): An inch or two fell last night. Temperatures were in the high 30's all day yesterday but fell into the 20's late last night, everything froze over. Winds are already up and are at least as strong as predicted so far, gusting over 30mph. Right now the snow is not coming down heavy enough to affect visbility but is expected to pick up quite a bit around noon so we'll have a better live report of snow conditions before game time. Although wind chills will be in the teens, as long as the temp is in the 20's these two teams will not suffer a great deal from the cold. Noaa.gov: Today: Snow and areas of blowing snow. Temperature falling to around 24 by 5pm. Very windy, with a north northwest wind 25 to 30 mph increasing to between 35 and 40 mph. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. SNOW WILL DEVELOP ACROSS ILLINOIS THIS MORNING AND THEN SPREAD EAST INTO NORTHWEST INDIANA THIS AFTERNOON. ACCUMULATIONS OF 3 TO 5 INCHES ARE EXPECTED NORTH OF INTERSTATE 80 AND 1 TO 3 INCHES TO THE SOUTH. THE HIGHEST SNOWFALL TOTALS SHOULD BE ACROSS NORTHERN ILLINOIS NEAR THE WISCONSIN BORDER AND NEAR THE SHORE OF LAKE MICHIGAN. VERY STRONG WINDS WILL MOVE INTO THE NORTHWESTERN PORTIONS OF THE AREA THIS MORNING AND QUICKLY SPREAD TO THE SOUTH AND EAST. WIND GUSTS AS HIGH AS 55 MPH ARE POSSIBLE. THE STRONG WINDS COMBINED WITH THE NEW SNOWFALL WILL CREATE SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WITH NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS POSSIBLE |
