Harbaugh to 49ers Makes Sense
Jim Harbaugh should be the next head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. All the pieces are in place. The 49ers hired a new G.M. who just happens to have the same agent as Harbaugh has. Harbuagh would be taking over a team that would have an excellent chance of winning an extremely weak division in 2011. Harbaugh would be able to stay in the Bay area, something his wife and family really want. If the 49ers offer him the right amount of money, this should be a done deal by the weekend.

Rumor has it he is looking for a Pete Carrol deal north of $6mil per season. The Yorks are so desperate to get a winning team they they would pretty much pay him whatever he wanted.
Question is...if Harbaugh does stay in the Bay Area, do the 49ers make a play for the #1 pick and get Luck? What do you think it takes to move from #7 to #1? Maybe 1st & 3rd this season, and a 1st or 2nd next season? I remember when the Chargers raped the New York Giants for Eli Manning...one of my favorite draft day trades of all time. I don't want to play in San Diego.....go let your daddy touch you Eli...crybaby. There is a "points" formula most of the clubs go by where each pick is assigned a point value. Just not sure what it would take to move up (if Carolina is willing) and if the 49ers pull the trigger. Or if it is even worth giving up the draft picks to do so. The few mocks I've seen have SF taking the kid from Mizzou at #7.

I think if he does take the San Fran job, he has a great chance of success. I think they are really a QB away from being contenders to make noise in the playoffs. The only thing I am not sure about is what QB do they get?
The good ones don't exactly grow on trees, and they won't be able to get a Luck or even a Locker as they would be taken well ahead of them I am sure.

There are 4 QB's talked about going relatively early. We all know about Luck. Gabbert from Mizzou, Mallett from Arkansas (if he leaves early) and Locker are also projected Top 15 picks. Two of those four should be available to the 49ers at #7 if they keep the pick, and to Carolina at #7 if they trade down. When you are 2-14, it takes more than one player to build a team, especially when you are in a division where a 10-6 record does not even qualify you to get into the playoffs. Carolina needs all the help it can get. A trade makes the most sense at this point, but that decision may well depend on who they hire as their next HC. A lot of talk revolves around Cowher, and I think he is the type of HC that depends more on a solid defense and a running game than a QB who can throw for over 4000 yards a season.
