Hines Ward Throwing BigBen under the Bus?

http://sports.yahoo.com/fantasy/blog...fantasy,205547

"This game is almost like a playoff game. It's almost a must-win. I could see some players or teammates questioning, like 'It's just a concussion. I've played with a concussion before,'" Ward told Costas in an interview taped Saturday at the team's suburban-Baltimore hotel as a prelude to the Steelers-Ravens game.

"It's almost like a 50-50 toss-up in the locker room: Should he play? Shouldn't he play? It's really hard to say. I've been out there dinged up; the following week, got right back out there. Ben practiced all week. He split time with Dennis Dixon(notes). And then to find out that he's still having some headaches and not playing and it came down to the doctors didn't feel that they were going to clear him or not – it's hard to say. Unless you're the person [himself]. … I've lied to a couple of doctors saying I'm straight, I feel good when I know that I'm not really straight."

Yes? No?

Sounds like to me he is throwing Ben under the bus, would love to hear others thoughts on this.

Know the whole story,

Ben begged to play at 11pm the night before the game. Tomlin is the one who would not let him play. End of story.

I think Ward was saying that the reason why he didn't get medical clearance from the Doctors was because he actually answered their questions truthfully and didn't lie to them like Ward says he has done so he could play in the past. You can beg your coach till you are blue in the face but if the doctors haven't given medical clearance I think the point becomes mute how much you beg to play. I just find it funny that Ward seems to be calling out his QB especially with the friggen beating he took last year and led them to a Super Bowl victory. Say what you want about Ben, but not many QBs could take what he takes and still be in there the following week and that is what surprises me the most about Wards comments.

I totally agree and I am surprised at Hines comments. Ben has earned the right to not be questioned. Nice post Kirk

Curious why Pittsburgh players and fans aren't more upset that their team didn't have a veteran ready to come in for last night's game. I thought Dixon played ok, but would think the team would have had a week to get someone ready to play on the vey real chance Roethlisberger couldn't play

As far as the concucssion, no one should question anyone on that. This is peoples lives here. Haven't we heard enough stories about former players and the lives they lead now to give him a break on this?

Gerk I don't think it would of mattered, who out there could come in with less than a weeks preparation and be asked to go out and perform against a complicated D like the Ravens? I think there only choice was Dixon(if Ben couldn't go) and to be honest I am not that surprised that he didn't play that badly(I really liked him at Oregon until he blew his knee out). They did pick up Palko though I believe on Thursday so this week they will be ok, LOL!!

My thoughts are I'd rather go with a veteran in a game that important, even if it was only on one weeks preparation. This game could end up deciding their playoff fate

He played ok, but his throw in OT was horrible. And even if they wanted to start Dixon, I would have had a veteran ready to go in, if he was injured or struggling, at the very least.

Steelers wanted to see if What Dixon had, They been grooming him for two years to be the backup when Batch is done, Why wouldnt they want to see what they have in him. Prob just as good as J Garcia who was rumered. Then they go vanilla not calling nealy enough rollouts and only throw on thrid downs into heavy blitz. Run on 1st and 2nd with 10 in the box, Arians gotta go.

You really wanted to see what he had in a game that could have meant their playoff lives?

As a fan, I would have wanted a QB that gave me the best chance to win the game and I would take Garcia over Dixon 100 out of 100 times, even learing a new offense. You don't have to go so vanilla with a veteran QB

They did bring in 3 QB's early last week so they knew what they were up against. That's just my opinion.
