David Garrard's release is stunning, particularly with Jack Del Rio needing to make the playoffs to save his job.

So he puts in Luke McCown?? Del Rio is done coaching the Jags at some point this year.

They must know something about Gerrards health/back that is leading them to this decision IMO because this truly is stunning if they just decided to release him for no other reason. Not that I believe Gerrard is the second coming of Joe Montana but good lord McCown is definitely not a upgrade and Gabbert has a long way to go to be a competent starting QB in the NFL. Only other explanation is that the Jags have told DelRio don't worry your job is safe even if you go 0-16 and we want Gabbert starting in the near future so get rid of the issue before the season starts by ridding yourself of Gerrard and then he is only replacing McCown when the time comes and you don't have a soap opera on your hands.

I don't know what the Jags are thinking.I thought garrard gave them the best chance to win.Do you think the jags are tanking on purpose so they can leave and move to LA ?

My understanding of the situation is that the jags have to lose money in 3 consecutive seasons to forfeit their contract. At this rate it wont be long but it definitely wont be after this season. Del Rio is loved in this town for some reason, even though the guy is a complete idiot. Gabbert has looked good at times this preseason and rumor has it he will be starting by week 4 regardless of the garrard issue. This is something that should have been done years ago instead of wasting 60 million on the guy and dropping leftwich. Del Rio has job security with Gabbert calling the shots this year under center as not many chances he will be fired with a rookie QB starting all year long. Hot seat for sure but maybe an insurance move on his part. Team chemisty is great this year with Gabbert around and with all of Garrards concerns from health to arm accuracy, not sure why they didnt make the move last year. I have been fortunate this year to be around the team a lot already and only looking at more opportunities to come as the team is staying at my Hotel 3 more times this season including New Years Eve. I will post what I find out when I have it this year as being the executive chef often leads to some alone time shooting the shit with coaches.

Think San Diego is the front runner for the LA job so far..... just my $0.02

The Jags need a Quarterback and some threatening recievers to get them in the play-off. Yeah Garrard was fuking terrible but they need someone better than McCown. That guys is not much better IMO. I would settle for Brett Farve right now. Hell I would take D. Mcnabb right now.
