Joey Porter arrested for DUI, resisting arrest and assault on a police officer

Joey Porter didn’t take long to give the Arizona Cardinals a reason to question the wisdom of signing him.

Porter was arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of drunken driving and accused of assaulting an officer and resisting arrest.

In his hometown of Bakersfield, Calif., Porter confronted the police in a Taco Bell parking lot while his friend was pulled over.

The incident quickly escalated when the officer smelled alcohol coming from Porter’s car and asked for his license.

Porter refused and slapped the officer’s hand when he tried to reach into the vehicle to unlock the door.

Porter finally got out of his car “in a confrontational manner,” according to the report, leading the officer to pull his gun and order Porter to the ground.

Porter refused, but he eventually put his hands behind his head and was arrested.

The incident occurred one week after the Cardinals signed Porter to a three-year, $17.5 million deal.
