Judge a player......

For anyone who has played sport to a high level should understand off days happen, sometimes you can do everything right to prepare and it still happens. Such is the nature of the beast, sport is fickle.

At the end of the day judge a player over his entire career and not a one off game.

You are exactly right Dave. To many people want to judge off a play or a game. The best of the best all have bad plays, bad games

a player is judged by the collective games, on a big stage particularly, which make up his career

so the game last night is part of it for sure, some will overreact of course

but some of the criticism is fair

100% correct dave nz! Everyone has bad days no matter how good you are.

What about Edwin Moses?

After breaking his own world record the following year, Moses lost to West Germany's Harald Schmid on 26 August 1977 in Berlin, his fourth defeat in the 400-meter hurdles. Beginning the next week, when he beat Schmid by 15 meters in Düsseldorf, Moses did not lose another race for nine years, nine months and nine days.
By the time American Danny Harris beat Moses in Madrid on June 4, 1987, Moses had won 122 consecutive races, set the world record two more times, won three World Cup titles, won two World Championships, and earned his second Olympic gold medal in Los Angeles, where he was selected to take the Olympic Oath.

One player can only do so much, that is the lesson to be learned from any big game

Put Montana or any other QB in the game against the Saints and they will lose that game because the QB position alone would not have made the difference...Manning threw for 333 yards, more yards or more completions alone were not enough

9-9 playoff record over his career...28td's-19int's, lower completion %, and an overall lower qb rating in the playoffs means to me it's not just 1 game. his position is measured by playoff(superbowl) victories, just ask marino. admitedly, betting against him in the regular season is a risky proposition.
