A look at Week 5
Philadelphia (1-3) @ Buffalo (3-1)- First Matchup :: October 7, 1973
- All-Time Series :: Philadelphia leads 6-5
- Last Matchup :: December 30, 2007 (Buffalo 9 @ Philadelphia 17)
- Point of Interest :: As fun as it is to watch solid defensive games, these two teams seem to loving scoring in October. Philadelphia's totals are 4-0 in their last 4 October games, while Buffalo is 4-1 in their last 5 October games. All signs point to a shootout here.
New Orleans (3-1) @ Carolina (1-3)- First Matchup : October 22, 1995
- All-Time Series :: Carolina leads 17-15
- Last Matchup :: November 7, 2010 (Carolina 3 @ New Orleans 34)
- Point of Interest :: It seems that as good as the Saints are, they seem to like to play down to their competition. New Orlenans is 2-9 ATS vs a team with a losing record. So, for those of you (and I include myself in this group) who are on the "Cam Newton can keep them in any game" bandwagon, that Panthers +6.5 line is awfully tempting right now.
Oakland (2-2) @ Houston (3-1)- First Matchup :: October 3, 2004
- All-Time Series :: Houston leads 5-1
- Last Matchup :: October 3, 2010 (Houston 31 @ Oakland 24)
- Point of Interest :: Two of football's most exciting young RBs go at it this week as Arian Foster (HOU) takes on Darren McFadden (OAK). Run DMC is averaging 6.24 YPC, and faces a Houston defense that is giving up 108.8 Rush YPG, and 4.94 YPR. Oakland is giving up 136 Rush YPG and 5.91 YPR. This may be a running display game, and may also end up being a shootout.
Kansas City (1-3) @ Indianapolis (0-4)- First Matchup :: September 28, 1970 (Kansas City @ Baltimore)
- All-Time Series :: Indianapolis leads 13-7
- Last Matchup :: October 10, 2010 (Kansas City 9 @ Indianapolis 19)
- Point of Interest :: Aside from the obvious reason why Indy has dominated KC in recent years (Manning), there's a fun fact here that goes even beyond Peyton: Indy has won 5 straight at home vs the Chiefs. December 21, 1980 was the last time the Chiefs beats the Colts (then Baltimore) on their own turf. In fact, KC hasn't beaten Indy at all since 1985. So, Peyton or no Peyton, KC sucks vs the Colts.
Cincinnati (2-2) @ Jacksonville (1-3)- First Matchup :: September 10, 1995
- All-Time Series :: Jacksonville leads 11-6
- Last Matchup :: November 2, 2008 (Jacksonville 19 @ Cincinnati 21)
- Point of Interest :: Cincinnati has lost 8 straight at Jacksonville, an their only win in Jacksonville was November 26, 1995 - a 17-13 victory.
Arizona (1-3) @ Minnesota (0-4)- First Matchup :: October 6, 1963 (St. Louis @ Minnesota)
- All-Time Series :: Minnesota leads 13-10
- Last Matchup :: November 7, 2010 (Arizona 24 @ Minnesota 27)
- Point of Interest :: Minnesota has won 6 straight at home vs Arizona (last home loss vs Arizona (then the St. Louis Cardinals) was November 6, 1977)
Seattle (1-3) @ New York Giants (3-1)- First Matchup :: November 28, 1976
- All-Time Series :: New York leads 9-5
- Last Matchup :: November 7, 2010 (New York 41 @ Seattle 7)
- Point of Interest :: Seattle hasn't won in New York (well, really it's New Jersey) since December 11, 1983. They've gone 0-5 since then.
Tennessee (3-1) @ Pittsburgh (2-2)- First Matchup :: September 20, 1970 (Houston @ Pittsburgh)
- All-Time Series :: Pittsburgh leads 43-30
- Last Matchup :: September 19, 2010 (Pittsburgh 19 @ Tennessee 11)
- Point of Interest :: Steelers are 5-0 ATS in their last following a SU loss. Tennessee, on the other hand, are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 when following a SU win.
Tampa Bay (3-1) @ San Francisco (3-1)- First Matchup :: October 30, 1977
- All-Time Series :: San Francisco leads 15-5
- Last Matchup :: November 21, 2010 (Tampa Bay 21 @ San Francisco 0)
- Point of Interest :: The Bucs are 11-0 ATS in their last 11 road games vs a team with a winning home record. The 49ers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 as a favourite but they are also 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs a team with a winning record. Tough to call this one, so I may just lean under (Under is 6-1 in last 7 meetings).
San Diego (3-1) @ Denver (1-3)- First Matchup :: October 16, 1960 (Los Angeles @ Denver)
- All-Time Series :: Denver leads 54-47-1
- Last Matchup :: January 2, 2011 (San Diego 33 @ Denver 28)
- Point of Interest :: We fickle Broncos fans do nothing but bitch about the QB position, particularly Kyle Orton and how we're convinced Tebow is the answer. Whether he is or isn't, Orton continues to show up to work, outwork the other guys, and still try his best each week as thousands of fans chant the #3's name in his face. Personally, I'd like to thank Orton for being a trooper. That being said, San Diego is 3-1 for the first time in 5 years and Rivers is 8-2 vs Denver. Looks like another heartbreaker at Mile High coming up, and the Tebow chants get louder.
New York Jets (2-2) @ New England (3-1)- First Matchup :: September 17, 1960 (Boston @ New York Titans)
- All-Time Series :: New York leads 52-51-1
- Last Matchup :: January 16, 2011 (New York 28 @ New England 21)
- Point of Interest :: Over is 3-0-1 in their last 4 meetings. Let's face it: these teams score points in bunches. Has a legitimate chance to be game of the week, particularly because the Jets have forgotten how to run the ball, while the Pats suddenly have a running game. And you can bet your ass Belichick hasn't forgotten about the playoff exit last year, compliments of Rex Ryan.
Green Bay (4-0) @ Atlanta (2-2)- First Matchup :: October 23, 1966
- All-Time Series :: Green Bay leads 14-13
- Last Matchup :: January 15, 2011 (Green Bay 48 @ Atlanta 21)
- Point of Interest :: Green Bay has never won two in a row at Atlanta. Matt Ryan is 21-3 at home. Green Bay devastated Atlanta at home in the playoffs last year. Atlanta has 5 sacks total on the season so far (tied with KC & Seattle, Buffalo has 4). Hard to call this game either way, so I'm just going to call the over (5-2 in last 7 meetings).
Chicago (2-2) @ Detroit (4-0)- First Matchup :: October 22, 1930 (Portsmouth @ Chicago)
- All-Time Series :: Chicago leads 93-64-5
- Last Matchup :: December 5, 2010 (Chicago 24 @ Detroit 20)
- Point of Interest :: 6 - an interesting number for the Lions right now. If they can manage to beat Chicago this week, they will be off to their first 5-0 start since 1956 - when they went 6-0. Also, it will end their current 6-game losing streak to the Bears. Look for one of the best MNF games we will see this year to happen this week. It's all about exorcising demons this year for the Lions. Just ask the Vikings.
Just thought I'd post this for fun. Use it as you will. Comment if you want. Either way, just felt like doing it.
