Matthew Stafford Worth No. 1 ?????

Matthew Stafford
Ouarterback, Georgia
6'3", 237 lbs
Highland Park High School, Dallas, Texas

Stafford was the top rated quarterback coming out of high school. Was EP National Player of the Year, the No. 1 ranked passer by Rivals, the Gatorade Texas Player of the Year, Class AAAA Mr. Football and Elite 11 participant. Needless to say he had one heck of a high school career. Even though Stafford's college career was a good one, he was never named first team All-SEC and he never led Georgia to an SEC title. He does however have a rocket arm and great physical ability. He can make throws from any position and has been compared to Jay Cutler coming out of college. His career stats are 39 games started, 27 wins, 7 losses, 7731 passing yards, 51 tds and 33 ints. A good solid college career but is he really the number one pick for this year's NFL draft? I just can't see it but many draft experts are predicting that he will be. I've watched him play many times and have been impressed with his physical ability, but, each time I watched him I always came away thinking something was missing that separates the good from the great ones. Welcome your comments...................

Question: There was another quarterback out of Highland Park High School who is now in the NFL Hall of Fame. Who is he?

I think he is just from a value standpoint. The dropoff from QB #1 to QB #3 is HUGE.

My suggestion for Detroit is stocking up on offensive linemen and defensive players this draft, letting Culpepper go 1-15 next year, and grabbing Sam Bradford in the 2010 draft. I know that teams don't intentionally throw seasons, but this year's Lions won't be much better than last year's Lions. Why not make this a full two-year rebuilding project?

The last HP QB was Bobby Layne

Stafford is worth #1 overall

Good try Philly but it was Bobby Layne.

Thought FratDaddy would know that one being from the Dallas area.

detroit has a ton of picks this year. obv them getting another top 5 pick next year wouldnt hurt but also you dont want to be blowing 30-60 mil every year on a college player.

det just needs picks right now, doesnt matter when they are, they just need to do a complete overhaul and this is a case where its quantity over quality. draft picks, unlike any other sport, are gold in the nfl.

parcells no patience to take ryan last year, plus miami had some talent. det has 1 good player, taking stafford is the only move.

someone on espn said det's timetable is to be significant by 2012. you should see after every year in det alot of players getting cut. you have to get rid of amost every part of that 0-16 team. much like the det tigers did after that 120 loss season, only player that is left is brandon inge

well i dont think they should just throw the season, but i def think they will be back in the top 10 regardless next draft.

i was just shocked you were saying they should take an OT

I think they should take an OT, but I just know they won't. You or I can make 1000 mock drafts and argue why they shouldn't take Stafford, but in two weeks they will announce Stafford's name with the first pick.

My idea of them picking an OT #1 overall is based on Detroit throwing the season and taking Sam Bradford #1 overall in the 2010 Draft.

Oh, and when I say OT, I mean OT. Not a $30M guard.

What about another quarterback? MARK SANCHEZ. He has gotten a lot of press as a first round pick. Sanchez is 6'3" and 225 pounds with good raw skills. He only started 16 games during his college career. His numbers were good with 3965 passing yards and 41 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. For many reasons I believe he should have stayed at USC one more year. Would bet a dollar to a donut that Pete Carroll feels the same way. This kid needs more seasoning.
