Miami to release Zach Thomas

Who's left?

Zach Thomas, who has more tackles than any linebacker in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, will be released by the Miami Dolphins, a league source said Thursday afternoon

The Dolphins had no comment, but the source said the official move was likely to come Thursday afternoon. A fifth-round pick in 1996, Thomas has spent 11 seasons with the Dolphins, recording more than 1,500 tackles.
But Thomas' age and salary worked against him as the Dolphins begin a major rebuilding process with Bill Parcells running the front office and Tony Sparano taking over as coach. Thomas will turn 35 in September and was scheduled to make $5.65 million in base salary in 2008.

Thomas has been selected to seven Pro Bowls and is one of only three players to record 100 tackles in each of his first 10 seasons. Speculation about Thomas' future first began as the Dolphins struggled through a 1-15 season.

The source said retirement is a possibility and Thomas will play again only if he can join a team that he views as having a legitimate shot at winning a Super Bowl.

You know the tuna and his dislike of little linebackers...

I wonder how legit retirement talk is...

If he were a little bit older the Pats would be all over him.

Once their shelf-life is at an end, you have to let them go.

Zack can still play but he just doesn’t fit in with what Miami is doing. Ran is right

I love Zack, one of my all-time favorite players for sure!

These guys came here to shake things up and that is what they were doing. Hopefully it works out and I hope Zack goes to a winning team and gets a shot!

somebody will pick him up - I think he's still got a little left in the tank - especially if that tank is not in Miami - new Scenery...

Zach is a favorite of almost any Dolphin fan, but the flip side is you can't help but get a little excited as a Dolphin fan at the possibility of the franchise being turned around and becoming competitive for division titles again. Been a longggggggg time.

If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special.” ---Jim Valvano

Zack just did a long interview on WQAM, local radio here and he is a class act which we already knew. I hope he ends up on a winner!

Rumors are he could be headed to the Cowboys. At this point in his career I am sure he wants to play for a contender and why not play in his native state of Texas?? I could see him playing a role on special teams as well.

Agree 100% Jack, he is a class act all around, don't want to see him end a great career like Marino, ringless, if he has a chance to get on a team with a 2-3 year shot at winning it all, I wish him the best at that dream.

PS. You know we grew up in the same area, but being in North Fla. the last 25+ years, I havn't heard that radio station WQAM name in it seems forever!!
I can't believe they are still on the air!! I remember listening to QAM some 40+ years ago, wow! We always had to sneak it on when the parents weren't around, or else... I think they were the first station down there playing rock & roll, " that devil music"....LOL........ Good memories Jack.........OXY...

He is supposed to visit the Pats today. Man I hope they don't get him. Dallas or New Orleans may be good fits.
