Mike Singletary out as 49ers Head Coach

Citing a source close to the situation, Comcast SportsNet Bay Area reports that Mike Singletary will not return as the 49ers' head coach in 2011.
Owner Jed York and executive Paraag Marathe have already decided to move on from Singletary prior to next season. The only question left is whether they'll let him coach the season finale against Arizona. "We want to take our time before we make any decisions like that," said CEO Jed York. "You don't want to make an emotional decision right now, right after the game." According to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, ESPN's Jon Gruden and Stanford's Jim Harbaugh "could be interested," though the 49ers will not hire a head coach until they've picked a new general manager. I think it was a for gone decision he was not going to return even if they won the pitiful division with a 7-9 record. He needs to be in a front office somewhere and not in GM status...scouting or player personnel...

I think Fisher and Shannahan have made messes of their roster as well...Shannahan will surely get a pass but I am not sure Fisher will get a total pass...

The Broncos already did the right thing by cutting loose their bull-headed cheating coach.

Singletary seems to be a nice guy and a good motivator he's just not head coach material

He was an over rated LB who would have been mediocre at best w/o Hampton, the Fridge and McMichaels, so noone should be surprised at this less than average performance.

Lovie wanted no part of him as a coach

Agree 100%. I really like the guy alot but he was/is not ready to take a NFL team over. I'd love to retain him but don't think he will want to stay. Really wanted it to work for the guy especially how they finished 2009...but the decisions week in and week out have been just awful.

This team has some real talent. Just needs a coaching staff to unlock it. Either that or I'm just an eternal optimist homer ass. Hahaha.

once proud franchise

Gruden would be a good fit and might go IF Jerry doesn't hire him first

A few other jobs need to be sorted out before we start talking about Gruden going to the Niners. Other than Gore, Davis, and a couple of other players the team lacks talent. One might put a question mark next to Gore coming off an injury. Who the heck will play QB? Long story short, why would someone like Gruden want the Niners? Not even the Niners could pay him enough to leave broadcasting.
