Minnesota talking trade with KC for Jared Allen

Would look very nice in purple

Turns out the Vikings’ attention has been on more than the upcoming NFL draft of late. The team also has been in talks with Kansas City about a trade that could fill a glaring need by putting Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen in a Minnesota uniform.

Allen, who led the NFL with 15.5 sacks last season and has 43 in his career, was scheduled to arrive in the Twin Cities on Thursday to meet with Vikings officials. The Chiefs also have had discussions with Tampa Bay about the 26-year-old right end, according to Fox Sports’ website.

“It’s a situation that works out best for both sides,” Allen told Fox, adding he expects a deal to get done before the draft. “I can go to a team that is competing for a championship right now. The Chiefs can get valuable draft picks to rebuild with.”

Allen has wanted out since negotiations for a long-term contract broke down last year, according to the Kansas City Star.

Any team obtaining the 6-6, 270-pound Allen would have to pay a steep price to Kansas City and the fifth-year veteran. It placed the franchise tag on Allen, meaning he would make $8.8 million in 2008 (the average of the NFL’s five highest-paid defensive ends.)

While Vikings officials declined to comment Thursday, Chiefs President Carl Peterson issued a statement confirming the team has held “preliminary” trade talks for Allen with a “few” teams.

I had heard that when Spielman calls, all other teams have direct orders to put him right through

I'm not exaggerating when I say the owners love Spielman, he's getting most of the credit for the Adrian Peterson pick last year

I know his past record down there, but can't say I'm unhappy with what's he's done so far here

If he could get Allen, might be the best DL in the history of the NFL

In all honesty Spielman takes a lot of crap here because he was tied to Wanny and the one year he tried to bail out Wanny and he was in charge he made the big trade for AJ Feeley. But for the most part, I think he is knowledgeable and the Peterson draft was obviously as good as it gets

This would solidify Minny as the favorite in the NFC North. I hear that the Chiefs want a 1 and a 3 from Minny. With the weakness in this years draft crop, I would pull the trigger A.S.A.P. if I were Minny.

Thought it was 2 1st rounders???? Steep price but it's probably worth it...definitely worth a 1st and 3rd. Good Luck Gerk!

Minny does not have two 1st rounders, and that price would be way too high. No player is worth losing your first round picks for two years running. I hear that Minny wants to give up a 1 and a 5 or 6, and that the Chiefs want a 1 and a 3.

As long as Tavaris Jackson is at QB and Bernard Berrian is the #1 WR, this team can never be a favorite for anything

Good luck jerk

Chiefs agree to send Allen to Vikings for three draft picks

NFL.com Wire Reports

The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to trade Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen to the Minnseota Vikings, reports NFL Network's Adam Schefter.

The Chiefs will receive Minnesota's first- (17th overall) and both of its third-round picks (73rd and 82nd) as compensation. Kansas City has been looking to acquire additional draft picks in an attempt to speed up coach Herm Edwards' rebuilding project for a team that lost its last nine games in 2007 and finished 4-12.

The Vikings also agreed on a new contract with Allen, which will be finalized Wednesday. Allen flew to Minnesota on Tuesday night in anticipation of Wednesday's events.

An excelllent deal for Minny. This gives them the best D in the NFC North. With their ground game, they have enough to be considered the favorite over the Farveless Pack, who now must regroup as well as forget about last year's fiasco of a finish.

Some organizations and Mall posters lead by their action (eg: Minnesota Vikings and Gerk)

Other organizations and Mall posters lead by their inaction (eg: Green Bay Packers acquring Moss, letting Favre dictate their future etc. and PIGskin Terror)

Since you are so sure that Minny and Jackson won't be the favorite for anything, I'm sure you would be willing to take a month long avatar bet in season wins, Minnesota for me and Green Bay for you, Corrrect

Loser has to sport the other team's logo for a month. When you don't respond, I am sure the answer is no. I wouldn't take it in your shoes either

Hope all is well my Packer friend

Alot to give up for him, I will admit, especially with him being a strike away from a season long suspension

It's a chance I would take. Besides the uncertainty at QB with Jackson, their one glaring need was a pass rushing DE and now they have the best in the business.

Now they have three Pro Bowlers on their DL and with what should be a much better outside pass rush, the Vikings could be the best defense in the NFL
