Minnesota Viking "Official" offsesason thread

Often imitated, seldom duplicated, positively replicated

-Owner Zygi Wif's private plane is scheduled to fly to Northern California to pick up free agent WR Bernard Berrian. He is to fly to Minnesota today and could sign a free agent contract by tonight

- Vikings have offered Houston a 3rd round draft choice for QB Sage Rosenfels. Houston wants a 2nd. Would love this pickup. Team has also contacted Buffalo about QB J.P Losman. If these fall through, appears team has Josh McCown as its fallback plan

- Vikings were attempting to arrange visits with Cincinnati safety Madieu Willams and Philadelphia fullback Thomas Tapeh.

- Also attempting to get Cincy DE Justin Smith to visit, but it appears he may end up in San Francisco

Former Bengal Williams agrees to sign with Vikings for $33 million

By John Clayton

Updated: February 29, 2008, 12:14 PM ET

An all-night negotiations session with the Minnesota Vikings produced a deal that has made Madieu Williams a formal Bengal and now one of the highest-paid safeties in the NFL.

Williams, 26, agreed to a six-year, $33 million contract Friday morning after his agent, Ken Zuckerman, and Minnesota officials worked through the night to get a deal done. As both sides spelled out the final language of the contract, Williams headed to the airport Friday morning for a flight to Minneapolis to sign the deal.

The contract tops Deon Grant's five-year, $31.8 million deal that was the highest of the free agent safety class of 2007. Williams was considered one of the top safeties in free agency this year.

Thanks Alby

This one seemed like the biggest sure thing of all the ones speculated out there. Defnitely need a safety with Smith gone, Don't know much about this guy, but hope the money is worth it

I'm embarrassed to say I've never even heard of that guy... Maybe b/c someone else on that team was always hogging the lime light...

Can't catch worth a lick but a decent RB coming out of college, which you would already know being from minny. Be blocking for the same type of running back as he did in philly with westbrook. Good Luck Gerkster

Yeah, they don't ask the FB to catch in this offense either so probably not a problem. All he will be asked to do is block and I think he's pretty good at that

Appears the signing of Gus Frerotte as the backup QB will be announced very soon

Was hoping for Sage Rosenfels from Houston, but appears they want to hang onto him now

And this note from today, mostly for Dr. Jack

The Vikings have agreed in principle to extend the contract of Rick Spielman, vice president of player personnel, owner Zygi Wilf said Tuesday.
Spielman joined the team in May 2006 and had one year remaining on his current deal. He has been widely praised for a 2007 draft headed by All-Pro tailback Adrian Peterson.
Spielman thanked Wilf and added, "I feel fortunate to be part of an organization that's so special. It starts with the Wilfs, but it's also about the entire team that the Wilfs have put together."

No, I think there's almost no chance they will move up in the draft and if they did, it wouldn't be to take a QB

I think they will draft one sometime, but probably in the 3rd round or later. They are happy with Jackson, it sounds like
