My only future bet

Taking the Chargers to win the superbowl.
I was looking to make a futures play on the big game and this team is my pick.

I am a Patriots fan and they are the favorite, but the favorite never wins it seems. It be to easy otherwise..
Now of course Id LOVE to see them win but betting them is not a smart move.

The Chargers are in the top few favorites and have some value at 8-1..
My only reasoning is that I cant see Rivers never getting a ring. As much as I dont like this team, somethings gotta give somewhere. Favored teams on the outs of the AFC are Pitt because SB losers rarely get back to the big game, Jets because of similar reasons, Colts because the Bowl is at their home stadium, Patriots because they are the favorite.

As you can see, betting logic has nothing to do with how a team looks on paper.

This is a great chance for the Chargers to slip in at 8-1

If they could theoretically play the 2011 season 10 times, I bet the Chargers would win once. Therefore, at 8-to-1 it makes sense to bet 'em.

Here's my breakdown of Suberbowl wins in this alternate universe idea:

GB = 2
NE = 2
ATL = 1
SDC = 1
PHI = 1
PIT = 1
NYJ = 1
HOU = 1

So, I bet Houston to win at 25-to-1.

^ sorry dude but I have to point out... if you believe SD has a 10% to win the SB

then a future would need to pay 9-1 just to break even, so 8-1 is not a good bet at all if thats how you see it at 10%

My take :

Almost certainly the Chargers will hit a rough patch at some point in the season and you will get better or much better than 8-1. Which is why I usually suggest waiting when taking a future at these kind of low odds. But GL to you.

Yeah I can understand the itch to make a play.

What I said is true in all sports in future bets, at some point in a long season the championship winning team will hit a rough point (often more than one).
It is very rare for it to be plain sailing, the whole season.
