NFL Bets: Monday Night

At the time of this writing, the following Match Odds/Moneyline were available: New York Jets (2.1, +110) and Houston Texans (1.69, -145)

New York enters its third season under head coach Rex Ryan and two consecutive trips to the AFC title game. The Jets obviously want more and have often relished preseason action, posting 14 consecutive seasons with a non-losing record. “This is when the cream rises to the top,” Ryan commented about Monday’s preseason opener in front of a national audience. “Guys you think look great on the practice field, they’re doing great. That’s the exciting part about these games, when you see your young players.” New York has enjoyed great success as an underdog under Ryan in exhibition contests, covering all four games in that particular situation.

The Jets will once again be led by starting quarterback Mark Sanchez offensively, posting a 23-14 record (including postseason) in his first two NFL seasons. Entering the 2011 campaign, New York will return 18-of-22 starts, including 10 defensive players and eight offensive. The secondary leads the charge in that department, as all four starters return from a unit that held opposing quarterbacks to a 50.7 completion percentage, the best mark in the league.
