NFL reinstates Pacman

Adam "Pacman" Jones is one step closer to playing for the Dallas Cowboys.

Commissioner Roger Goodell notified Jones on Monday that he may participate in organized team activities with the Dallas Cowboys, including training camp and preseason games. The limited re-instatement is effective immediately.

"This limited re-instatement is a step in the process," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said in a statement. "Adam is aware of the things that need to be done in order to take the next step."

Jones could be in action as soon as Tuesday, the team's next organized practice. The Cowboys are scheduled to have OTAs through Thursday, and will hold minicamp from June 17-19.

Jones was suspended without pay in April of 2007 for the entire season for numerous violations of the NFL's personal conduct policy. He's been arrested six times and has been involved in 12 incidents requiring police intervention.

The Cowboys acquired the Jones from the Tennessee Titans in April for a fourth-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft and a sixth-rounder in next year's draft. The trade includes provisions that the Cowboys would get back a fourth-round pick in 2009 if Pacman isn't fully reinstated, or a fifth-rounder if he returns then gets punished again.

Goodell, who met with Jones following the NFL Spring Meeting in Atlanta, has repeatedly said he would review the case before training camp. In a letter to Jones, Goodell wrote that a final determination on his reinstatement for the 2008 regular season will be made by Sept. 1.

Goodell told Jones that his continued participation in the NFL depends on demonstrating that he can conduct himself in a lawful and reliable manner.

Jones will be expected to continue the personal conduct program established for him by the NFL and the Cowboys and to avoid further adverse involvement with law enforcement.

Jones was the sixth overall pick and the first defensive player chosen in the 2005 NFL Draft. He has started 28 of 30 games at cornerback, and set career-highs with 62 tackles, one sack and four interceptions in 2006. Jones, who is expected to make his biggest impact with the Cowboys on special teams, led the NFL in punt returns totaling 34 returns for 440 yards (12.9 average) and tied for the league lead with three return touchdowns

I lost a lot of respect for a Commish that I felt was going to hold players accountable. Pusman is a creature of habit and he acts like he has been raised by wolves. The guy is a complete waste of flesh. When he slips up I will be the first to say " I told you so" !!!! PACMAN , great name, now maybe the game can break down and he will pushed into the back room. I am sure that room will have bars!!!

I understand your frustrations, but I only hope that he makes it three for three on guys Jerry took a chance on that everyone said would go bust! (Tank , TO , Pacman??)

Once again, you make it sound as if the enitre NFL is littered with a bunch of church going good ol' boys. I think it has more to do with your hatred for the Cowboys more than anything else. I acknowledge Pacman has a terrible track record and doesn't have much of a leg to stand on. I hated TO when he was with the 49ers and Philly. But once you become a Cowboy, you become someone I am going to pull for. My point is that many true fans support their "team" no matter what. If they are wearing that Star on the side of their helmet, I am going to support them. For example, I hate the way Roy has played the last couple of seasons, but I truly hope he gets his shit together and helps my team win football games. You and some of the others in here just need to realize the Cowboys got better when they got Pacman and you would be singing an entirely different tune if he was playing for YOUR TEAM!

I like roy... I don't think he deserves all the shit he gets even though I do see him **** up a lot. I think he might be under a bigger microscope just because of all the hype that came with his arrival .

The bottom line is that he is a liability in pass coverage. And on top of all that, last year he didn't seem like the headhunter he has always been. It's one thing if he gets beat deep, but it's another thing entirely when he can't tackle an old ass guy like Toomer. That first touchdown in the playoff loss to the Gmen told the story of his season. The dude looked horrible from the start of the play. From being out of position to making a weak ass attempt of a tackle, he just didn't look like the killer of old. He did that shit all year. From a hitting standpoint he had been second to none, but last year he starts trying to ankle tackle!!! WTF is up with that! I just hope Campos and company gets him coached up and gets him in situations where he can blitz and play closer to the line of scrimmage and do the things he does best. Maybe with the changing of the jersey number back to 38 we can get the old Roy back!

Good post... I agree with all of it. I was pretty disappointed myself, but I guess sometimes I just feel you have to be careful what you wish for. We could have it a lot worse. Lets give him another shot this year to get his shit together.
