Bengals may sign Alexander
Former Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander is one of the few big-name unrestricted free agents in the NFL right now, but considering his declining production the last two years, that big name is unlikely to receive a big contract.
One team that could be interested in his services, however, is the Cincinnati Bengals. Mark Curnutte of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Alexander’s agent says the interest would be mutual.
“Making calls to teams. Bengals are on our list!” Jim Steiner, Alexander’s agent, said.
Alexander grew up near Cincinnati in Florence, Kentucky, and although he averaged just 3.5 yards a carry last season, that’s better than the 2.9 yards a carry that Rudi Johnson, who is expected to start for the Bengals, averaged last year. The Bengals also have Chris Perry, Kenny Watson, DeDe Dorsey and Kenny Irons under contract.
