Opinions on Les Miles

Looks like Michigan is making a strong push for Miles, and in initial reports most people think he is going to accept the job. He played with Dave Brandon the athletic director under Bo Schembechler, so there is a strong connection it seems.

Don't know a lot about him, from what I have heard in the past great recruiter, bad coach. Guy has a great record and a national title, anybody have an opinion on him? Can he be successful outside the recruiting hotbed he currently is in? Does he have any past run ins regarding violations or shady recruiting? I have heard a couple stories recently regarding recruits that sounded bad, but haven't had anything confirmed.

BTW, I am a Michigan fan and am sick of hearing the term "Michigan Man". Most people don't realize that phrase wasn't even coined about football, it was regarding basketball. When Bill Freider said he was leaving Michigan in 1989 to coach ASU, he did so before the tournament and said he would still coach the team until the end of the year. Schembechler was the AD and said no, "A Michigan man will coach Michigan" He then promoted Steve Fisher, who went on to win the national title as a #6 seed that year.

Good story, but point is I could give two shits if the guy has ever stepped foot on the campus before and it shouldn't have any bearing on the search. Get a good coach, who can recruit, run a clean program and win games!

Michigan was a #3 seed that year......I remember it like it was a yesterday. One of the best national championship games ever played.

I think he took the FAB 5 to the title game in 92 as a 6 or 7 seed. Michigan hoops has been flushed down the toilet since Fisher left. Is he still the coach at SD St?

Also CBS is reporting that Miles is heading back to coach LSU next year and not coach Michigan
