Packers Looking At Duke Basketball Player
Posted by Aaron Wilson on April 13, 2009, 8:12 p.m. EDT

The Green Bay Packers have worked out Duke University basketball player Greg Paulus, according to a league source.

Paulus is a former high school Gatorade Football Player of the Year selection who was offered football scholarships to Notre Dame and the University of Miami, but chose to play basketball at Duke.

Paulus was a three-year starter for the Blue Devils at point guard who was once named second-team All-ACC. He was a third-team Academic All-American selection.

A four-time all-state football player in New York, Paulus is listed at 6′1″, 180 pounds on the Duke basketball roster.

Paulus set six New York state passing records, including career passing yards (11,763). He threw 152 touchdown passes in 45 career games, leading his high school to a 42-3 record with him under center.

Paulus was the starting quarterback in the U.S. Army All-American game, also garnering All-American football honors from Parade Magazine.

Paulus is an athlete who was Gatorade Player of the Year in high school. Since he lost his starting spot and does not project as an NBA player, he's taking a shot at football. GB is looking to bring him in as an undrafted free-agent and put him on the practice squad.

Paulus really should go somewhere else with older QBs and only a 2 deep depth chart....... like Indy or Tenn

Duke guy to the Packers. Not that I needed another reason to hate them, but that definitely helps

from SI truth and rumors

Sources: Paulus may play football at Michigan
The Green Bay Packers aren't the only ones who are interested in Greg Paulus. According to sources close to the situation, the former Duke point guard was in Ann Arbor on Tuesday meeting with Michigan football coach Rich Rodriguez about the possibility of playing this season for the Wolverines. The 6-foot-1 Paulus, who was the Gatorade National Player of the Year as a standout quarterback at Christian Brothers Academy in New York, has one year of eligibility left for football after playing four years of basketball at Duke. He watched Michigan practice Tuesday afternoon and could fit in with Rodriguez's spread offense. The Wolverines don't have a clear-cut starting quarterback, and Paulus could come in and play immediately.

Paulus was a stud in high school, could have played qb at any college he wanted. This is 2 years too late he should have made this move when he realized he was going to ride the pine at Duke. Still think he will be good for Michigan in Rodriguez's system, or if he doesnt play, will be good to give competition to other qbs.

anybody who could have hand picked his college on choice to walk in day 1 and play qb is worth a shot. esp at a program like michigan who is slowly falling off the map. he'll fit right in the spread system and if nothing else challenge the other qb canidates. this is nothing different than a bball player being 1 and done except the fact he hasnt played in couple years but if he was as good as they say he prob hasnt lost much. how impressive is this though that he went to one of the most prestigous bball schools and now football schools? pretty amazing even though he lost me my shirt his freshman and sophomore year on the bball court with missing last minute ft's and stupid late turnovers

he could be valuable for the league minimum. stick him on the practice squad for a year and next year give him some plays. hes athletic, competitive, and has football skills. hes more valuable then just another cb or wr on a practice squad.

but if he could just at least make michigans team hed be better off. someone will def sign him as a undrafted free agent next year. basketball players make good transitions to football, and this guy actually has football experience. and i mean he was gatorade player of the year

Paulus was offered a scholarship to play for michigan next season. now i like that they are going outside the box giving this kid a shot to run their spread offense. they are getting a top 5 recruit just 4 years late. i think he will be a good player and michigan needs the help at qb, he will win them more than 3 games next year, I mean they cant get worse than they were last year with paulus at qb imo. but giving him a scholarship is a huge stretch. but i do think the kid will be able to lead the michigan offense to a winning record, playing college qb isnt that difficult for an athlete like him. i watched his highlight clip on youtube, kid was amazing by the looks of it.
