Lightbulb The Patriots Dynasty

Is it over?

Sure, they still have Brady - but the entire defense has been changed - and lets face it, the defense is what made this team great - was it the players or the coaching?

Its been over

And yes theri d is so mediocre. Warren is always banged up. Their LB core consists of Adalius Thomas who has been such a bust, Gary Guyton et al. Mayo only good one there. And they have 2 castoffs on the corner in Bodden and Springs, another dumb signing. And the younger guys like Willhite, Sanders, McGowan dont seem to me that they will be anything other than decent. Merriweather should be solid. Basically only actual playmaker on D is Mayo. Theyve done a great job at letting guys go at the right time, but 1 major mistake was Asante. Playmaking CB in his prime. What does he have, 7 INT's this year with 5 games left?

It's funny that you should bring this up because I've considered them overhyped for years now. Most people in the national media routinely talk about the Patriots as if they are the team to beat and defending champions. The fact of the matter is, they haven't won a championship since 2004. I'm not saying I don't respect them or that I don't think they are always a threat in the playoffs. I'm just saying that they aren't the overbearing "dynasty" that people make them out of be. They are a top-flight organization and deserve a ton of respect for all of the success they have had over the last decade. But they simply aren't THE team to beat anymore.

Yes, they sure did. And you can call me crazy but I never considered them an all-time great team. Because as dominant as that offense was, they were horribly unbalanced and that always costs teams in big games. They just never ran the ball enough to slow down top flight pass rushes. Their defense was old and slow. They were an excellent team but they really lost to Baltimore and if the Chargers were healthy they may not have even gotten out of the AFC Championship game.

I agree with that - but even then their "old" defense was worlds better than their defense is now

and of course, they still have zero running game
