Patriots to host Chiefs to open 2017 season

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots will open the 2017 NFL season at home against the Kansas City Chiefs, on Thursday, Sept. 7.

The matchup was one of the highlights as the league officially released the entire schedule of games Thursday night.. Other Week 1 matchups include:

The New York Giants will face the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas. It will mark the fifth time in six seasons the Giants will have opened against the Cowboys.

The Green Bay Packers will open the season by hosting the Seattle Seahawks at Lambeau Field.

The Minnesota Vikings will host the New Orleans Saints as part of a Monday Night Football doubleheader on ESPN.

The Washington Redskins will host the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Tennessee Titans will host the Oakland Raiders.

The NFL had previously said that the Patriots and Raiders would be playing in Mexico City this season but hadn't announced a date. The Patriots tweeted Thursday that the game will be played on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 4:25 p.m. ET.

The Raiders will play five prime-time games this season

The 2017 season of Monday Night Football on ESPN kicks off Sept. 11 with a prime-time doubleheader. Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints travel to Minnesota, the site of the upcoming Super Bowl LII, to take on Sam Bradford and the Minnesota Vikings at 7 pm ET. And in the nightcap, the Los Angeles Chargers visit the Denver Broncos at 10:15 pm ET.

Early-season marquee matchups include the Lions at the Giants on Sept. 18 and the Cowboys at Arizona on Sept. 25.

Long stretches of the Monday Night schedule will feature divisional rivalries. In addition to the opening-night AFC West matchup between the Chargers and Broncos, this year's Monday Night slate includes a Vikings-Bears matchup in Chicago on Oct. 9, a Colts-Titans clash in Nashville on Oct. 16, a Redskins-Eagles game in Philly on Oct. 23, a Broncos-Chiefs matchup in Kansas City on Oct. 30 and a rematch of last year's Week 17 NFC North championship game between the Lions and the Packers on Nov. 6 in Green Bay.

The intra-division action picks up again in December, when the Bengals host the Steelers on Dec. 4, the Dolphins host the Patriots on Dec. 11 and the Buccaneers hope to still have a chance to dethrone the defending NFC South champion Falcons on Dec. 18.

The NFC champion Falcons are one of eight teams that will make multiple Monday Night Football appearances in 2017. They play at Seattle on Nov. 20 in addition to their December game in Tampa. The Lions visit the Giants on Sept. 18 in addition to their November game in Green Bay. Washington visits the Chiefs on Oct. 2. Miami visits Cam Newton and the Panthers on Nov. 13. And the Eagles host the Raiders in Monday Night Football's 2017 finale on Christmas night.

Weeks 2, 7, 9, 10, 11, 14-16 look good to me

One of the better looking MNF schedules in years. Couple other weeks could turn in to good games

Week 1 isn't bad. The late game with Chargers/Broncos is way better than that Rams/Niners shit fest last year.

4 teams, none were in the playoffs. Pass.

I hate the Vikings, no disrespect vikesfan, but they're boring and almost no talent with AP gone

By week 3 it will be completely changed. No other league is like the NFL where the previous year means so very little with all the parody.

Vikings need to get back in to Round 1 and grab a Mahomes or Webb.

Or maybe take a flyer on Kizer. Their QB situation is in shambles with Bradford and Bridgewater maybe never playing again.

So week 1 could have playoff teams than right? If last year doesn't mean much, week 1 could be a couple of good games.

yawn NFL yawn

so sick of these primetime match-ups having the better team at home. especially when its a division game , you have the ability to switch it.

i mean seriously Kansas City @ New England week 1? lol , KC (Andy Reid teams in general) are terrible in September and they TRAVEL to New England ???? shit will be super yawn fest.

^ so what was the better option?

Super Bowl Champs open up the season. You can't do that to Atlanta to have them be there for game 1 for sure. not fair. I would have gone Carolina hoping they come back. Houston ( talk about boring ), LA Chargers ( ugh ), or one of the typical AFC LEAST teams?

I guess in theory. Saints and Chargers could be in the playoff mix. Broncos need a stable QB, and Vikings are caught between a rock and a hard place.

Neither of the 2 games excite me at all.

So what is wrong with a little change?? New England will win 30-16 like everyone knows, even Kim Jong-un. Time for change or let the Super Bowl winner play on the road first game. Just mix it up.

i don't know yet what to think of the vikings for this season yet. waiting to see how they do in the draft. they did ok in free agency so far imo by addressing some problem areas.

i highly doubt they have any intention of trying to get either of those guys.

Gerk is usually spot on about how he thinks the vikings will do before the season starts so i will see what he thinks in august. i try to be objective about them but sometimes i get carried away when they are looking good and get too bummed out when they look bad.

they don't have enough capital to get in to round 1, unless they deal a 2 this year and a 1 next year.

you're right though they prob won't go QB
