Pats to slap franchise tag on Cassel?

Former NFL exec Mike Lombardi says members of the Patriots have confirmed to him that the team will place the franchise tag on Matt Cassel this offseason. If so, the Pats will have more than $26 million tied up in quarterbacks next season until they find a trading partner willing to give up a high draft pick.

Suprising, I thought they would only come to this decision later if they felt uncomfortable with Brady's recovery.

hey if theres a team out there that likes cassell a whole lot, they can make a big offer and give up 2 first rounders. Tampa is always looking for a new QB, if mcnaab leaves philly that would be a possible team to go after a QB. The patriots might even consider matching the offer cause who knows with brady. Theres teams out there that consider a franchise QB worth 2 first round picks.
