Prime Time Week 1

Thursday Night. Tennessee at Pitt.
Sunday Night. Chicago at Green Bay
Monday Night Early. Buffalo at New England
Monday Night Late. San Diego at Oakland.

In 2006, San Diego closed as a 3 point favorite over Oakland, despite the fact that the Chargers were 9-7 the year before, and the Raiders were 4-12. The easiest money of the year. This year, the Chargers are coming off an 8-8 record, and the Raiders a 5-11 record including winning their last two games. Will the line be that low? Will the money be that easy to make again?

It seems as if the Monday Nght people are going off on some tangeant, covering the rivals in the old AFL, because this is the 50th anaversary of the AFL merging with the NFL. Notice how you are getting Buffalo at New England (the Old Boston Pats) and San Diego against Oakland. The fact that these games should not be close (unless some QB goes down and tears his knee up) is totally irrelevent. Expect seeing a lot of games like Buffalo vs Miami, Denver vs Kansas City, Baltimore (the old Cleveland Browns) vs Pitt, Cleveland vs Cincinnati, ad nausium.

I don't know if it will be that easy, the Chargers were very lucky to cover at Oak last year, they did squat for three quarters and got an accidental TD late while trying to run out the clock.

Obviously SD is a better team, but Oak ended the year well and there's no reason that can't be a close game.

I agree that the Pack against the Bears is one of the best rivalries in the NFL. When they play each other in game 1, the tone is set for the rest of the year for these two teams. Sure things can reverse, but beating your rival, in game 1, especially if you are the away team (the Bears in this case) can be a huge lift for a team that is questionable going into the season. Both of these teams are questionable, and will be dogs to Minnesota in the NFC North race.
