Question about week-17/wildcard rematches

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone had the all-time stats on the crazy week-17/wildcard rematch scenario? What is the record for teams who won the week 17 meeting in the wildcard rematch the following week? I've been searching for this but haven't seen it anywhere. I'm dying of curiosity.

I heard this stat this morning. It is a little off to what you are asking but teams who have played each other twice in a season and then meet for the third time has happened 19 times since the merger.

And the teams who have swept the season going 2-0 and then playing a third time have 12 wins. So about even.

Harry: I expected the Rocky Mountains to be a little rockier than this.

Lloyd: I was thinking the same thing. That John Denver's full of shit, man.

Three of four wild-card games feature rematches from Week 17, including the Packers and Cardinals.

That has not happened previously.

The 1993 and 2001 playoffs each featured two immediate rematches.

The Packers beat the Lions in the 1993 playoffs to avenge a defeat one week earlier. Also that year, the Raiders beat the Broncos to close the regular season before beating them again in the wild-card round.

In 2001, the Eagles beat the Bucs two weeks in a row. The Raiders beat the Jets one week after losing to them.

Overall, teams that lost the first meeting won the next week eight times in 13 chances since 1943, according to ESPN Stats & Analysis.

That big Buffalo comeback game against Houston from like 20 years ago was a rematch of the previous week, in which Houston won pretty big

FWIW: In games played at the same venue with same teams in last week of season and first round of playoffs, only 1 of 5 teams has won both games in the Super Bowl era.

8 out of 13 is not as overwhelming as I would have thought.

Thanks for the info!
