Rookie QBs in the playoffs

Food for thought.....

Only 6 Rookie QBs have ever started a playoff game (since the merger in 1970).

These are the 6 rookie NFL quarterbacks who started a playoff game and their stats. Matt Ryan and Joe "Wacco" Flacco will be the 7th and 8th this weekend. All 6 had subpar games compared to their normal performance that season.

Dan Marino 1983 15-28 193 yds 2 TD, 2 INT - loss
Bernie Kosar 1985 10-19 66 yds 1 TD, 1 INT - loss
Jim Everett 1986 9-18 136 yds 1 TD, 2 INT - loss
Todd Marinovich 1991 12-23 140 yds 0 TD, 4 INT - loss
Shaun King 1999 15-32 157 yds 1 TD, 1 INT - win (they were a bye team and won by 1 point at home)
Ben Roethlisberger 2005 17-30 181 yds 1 TD, 2 INT - win (they were a bye team and won by last second FG at home)

No wildcard team with a rookie QB has EVER won a playoff game. EVER. And when you consider both of these are on the road - and one of them (Flacco) is against the team that leads the league in turnover margin......

thought marino made super bowl as a rookie and lost but i could be wrong. flacco, and ryan have been doing things all year that rookies don't normally do. both seem pretty good and mature, but you're right the playoffs are a different animal. good luck
