Rooney Rule...

What do you guys think about this..?

Is it now insulting black coaches that get interviews (to satisfy the rule)?
Do we need more black coaches?

I for one... think it has become insulting - especially now that there are plenty of black coaches in the league. I know an interview can take as long as you like, but I think in general a Gm/Owner already knows who he wants (for the most part). And, I think they are giving a wider birth in consideration of who they like/want.

Not that I necessarily agreed with it in the beginning, but it has been good and I think the playing field is level now...

just curious what the mall thinks...

yes it's bullshit because you can always tell the ones they bring in with no shot. yet the black coaches can get hired without interviewing a white candidate. if they are going to have it at all anymore it needs to go both ways

It is a stupid rule that was implemented to pacify the black players and assistant coaches, and the Union. Look at the 49ers. They are going to interview Marvin Lewis for their job. Lewis is one of the worst coaches in the NFL. Everyone knows that the 49ers are going after Jim Harbaugh. Lewis is just their way of getting around the stupid Rooney Rule.

When you have staggering numbers (like 70% black assistant coaches/5% black head coaches) as they have had in the past, the rule has helped in getting quality black assistant coaches in the door with interviews, getting their names out there as head coach possibilities, and even jobs for positions they may not have interviewed for otherwise.......the rule is having the effect that was intended......

If you are talking about the hiring of more minority coaches, I do not think that the rule is causing that. I think that the growing number of black assistant coaches is more responsible for the increase than this silly rule.

I wonder how the Hispanic population thinks about this. They don't have any head coaches. Just plain raciest.

Lol, the Chinese will have coaches in 5 years, they're planning on it. But I'm no fan of the rule, and I know it doesn't always happen, but I'd hope the best man gets hired for the job.

there were two black coaches when the rooney rule came out!

that said, it is now easy to defeat with sham interviews.

Its a great rule. It opened doors to ALL the NFL clubs. Makes me sick that we still have to talk about equal rights in 2011. We ALL bleed red get over it.

What other minorities are there in football?

If a team interviews a chinese guys it does not satisfy the rule.
