We're even having a parade this Sunday with our old QB Bobby Hebert leading the whole thing in a dress and high heels in memory of the late local sportscaster Buddy Dileberto who vowed to wear one and hang out on a street corner downtown if the Saints ever made it to the Super Bowl. Supposedly, lots of other guys are getting in on the act, too. Pretty legendary stuff, but I will settle for watching this sausage party on TV. Buddy D is credited with the origin of fans wearing bags on their heads.

The last time I was in New Orleans last fall for the Florida LSU game we stopped by there on our way. As I was walking by a fortune teller his cell phone rang and he asked "who is this". My comment was "shouldnt you know?". Pissed him off pretty quick

Buddy D was the Harry Carey of NO radio. Sounded like he had a bee sting on his tongue.
Bobby Hebert has done a great job in his spot the last few years. ![]() Gimme a dollar if I tell you where you got them shoes.

Quote:
Buddy D made Harry Carey sound like an English professor, like not only did a bee stong his tongue, but he also had a handful of marbles in there. Bobby's been great. He's definitely been drinking on the job lately, the way he sounds on "The Point After" these days . What a dream job: you get to drink and watch football in the Dome, then talk to mostly drunks about the game afterward, plus everyone loves you. Can't beat dat! |

Who's more popular in New Orleans? Drew Brees or Bobby Hebert

Dr. J,
Bobby has gained much more popularity from doing the Saints talk radio shows since he joined that broadcast just before the 2006 season than he ever had as a QB in this town. Not because people thought he was a bum or anything (people did like him for the most part) , but because the Saints offense back then was nothing special and all of the real fan love was for the Dome Patrol: Rickey Jackson, Pat Swilling, Sam Mills and Vaughn Johnson. It wasn't Bobby's fault. He had Carl Smith for his offensive coordinator and QB coach (now, Carl was a freaking bum!). Bobby's official title is "Founding Father of the Who Dat Nation". Amazingly, no one holds anything against him for signing with the Falcons. Drew Brees is a whole other thing. Our last 2 starting QBs were Todd Bouman and Aaron Brooks (I just threw up in my mouth a little). He could win the mayor's race without even campaigning. That's how popular he is. And not just because of what he's done for the Saints in playing a key role in turning things around, but also from his charitable efforts for the Greater New Orleans Area. I know a lot of people are sick of hearing about what he and the team have done for the city, but it really can't be understated. Sorry for the dissertation. I'd have to go with Brees. Tough choice with Hebert being from here and all, but the fans think he walks on water. No kidding, there are actually "Breesus" t-shirts sold locally, at least until the NFL sends more cease and desist letters to those small businesses. |
