Question Should Championships be considered in best all-time quarterback conversation?

I am one who thinks Tom Brady is one of the best ever but should championships be considered when discussing best ever in a team sport for an individual accomplishment?

As an example - Terry Bradshaw has 4 Super Bowl rings but I think everyone would agree he is not the best ever.

On the flip side - Dan Marino has 0 Super Bowl rings and some do consider him one of the best ever.

So should championships be part of the equation or not? And why?

you could make a list of 10 QB from all different eras and argue for days as to which is the greatest ever and each one would have a valid case. Brady is definitely the best right now, but impossible to compare to past eras.

Championships define a teams success, not necessarily a players'...

tough to answer....championships are won as a team..but on the other hand it shows which players step up in the playoffs.

i would say yes...but shouldn't be the only factor

I think you have to consider the coaching and the associated D. This is a very hard question to asnwer (who's the best)... Even breaking it down like that doesn't help me though...

Food for thought...
How many QB's do you know that threw 3 INTS in a Division Champ game and won?

You have to consider it. Stats are only part the story, leadership is another. I realize that Bradshaw wasn't the best, but he knew his abilities and understood his strengths to mask his weaknesses. I see Brady is a much better QB with the same quality team as the 70s Steelers, but Bradshaw still pulled out the victories, which makes him at least an over-achiever. Brady is just a Phenom. Dan Marino had a good, not great, team but continually failed to make the SB much less win it. IMO, I don't consider Marino any better than a Jim Kelly who at least got to Championships multiple times. Marino benefitted from the Dolphins system to get his stats. Don't get me wrong, Marino might be @ the 5th best QB I've seen in my lifetime, but definitely not the best!

I think it's the trump card people try to play b/c there is no definite answer.

Especially when you have guys like me that think certain guys are over-rated.

Seriously, I think a coach (with a great game plan) Like Brady has in Bellichick can make an average guy look great. I'm not saying he's average - just making a point, but then again, he did throw 3 picks yesterday...
