So how soon before gamblers become irate?
...if this new overtime rule comes into play....two FG's and a touchdown (or any other combination of that sort) to push some games to the over....
The complaining will be endless. |

I think the NFL is overthinking it.. They want a 50% chance for each team to win regardless of the winner of the coin flip.. Well what about a simple solution.. Eliminate the kickoff... Make the winner of the flip decide if they want to start at their own 15 yard line ( grind the numbers to see where the 50/50 number falls.. the 15 or 17 or 20 yard line) or give the opposing team the ball at the 15 to start.. good defensive teams with average offenses may give the other team the ball.. First to score wins .. it was close to a coin flip before they moved the kickoffs back.. Would make for some interesting 4th down calls..my take.. no mess.. less chance for injury.. one less kickoff. no extra playing time from the current system.. done..

Of course what if you're on the over, but no one complains or admits they got lucky ever...lol
ESPN showed a stat that only 22% of OT games ended in a FG from the team that won the coin toss on their opening possession (presumably they received).....That notion has been blown way out of proportion for years.....Another is that the team losing the coin toss is done-for.....I believe teams winning the toss have only won 53% of the time.....Not a significant difference... |

They are meeting in May to discuss this as a regular season option as well....
