Another example of the stupidity of the average NFL player. Do you think that this moron knows how to spell SUSPENSION, because that is what he is looking at.

Add Jevon Kearse to the list ...

Vanderbilt spokesman Jim Patterson said Kearse was stopped early Sunday morning after campus police reported seeing the SUV that Kearse was driving weaving across the road.

Patterson says Kearse took a field sobriety test, but refused a breathalyzer. He was arrested and charged with DUI and violation of Tennessee's implied consent law for failing to take the breathalyzer test. Officials said Kearse was released later in the morning

Former Chicago Bears and Longhorn running back Cedric Benson appeared in Travis County Court Monday morning and was ordered to install an ignition interlock breathalyzer in his car.

As part of the terms added to his bond, Benson is required to have it installed on his vehicle within 72 hours.

The device is a mechanism attached to the dashboard of a vehicle that works like a breathalyzer. If your breath alcohol content is over a certain amount, the vehicle will not start.
Until that device is installed, he cannot attend any alcohol-related events and is encouraged to finish any counseling he might be in prior to returning to court.

It is unusual to order an interlock device when you don't have a conviction," Currier said. "However, when there's a public safety issue, the judge does have the discretion to order the device at any time."
Judge Elizabeth Earle called Benson to appear in court to determine the best course of action to take while Benson is out on bond.
Earl decided not to take the chance of another alcohol related arrest

She may be trying to send the message that someone who is a public figure, like Mr. Benson is, has the perfect opportunity to set the example for folks," Currier said

Judge Earle expressed her concern for Benson and the importance of his role in the community.
"I think Mr. Benson can bounce back from this," Currier said. "It really depends on how he looks at this and how seriously he takes it."

About three in every ten Americans will be involved in an alcohol related crash at some time in their life according to Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

In a mission to stop drunk drivers from re-offending, Douglas County attorneys are pushing judges to enforce the use of a device that will prevent the car from starting unless the driver is sober. Laura Langemo has more.
Drinking and driving is a dangerous and reckless activity that has taken the lives of many people.

Now Douglas County officials are aggressively enforcing an ignition interlock system in the cars of repeat offenders. The system can restrict ignition through a breathalyzer attached to the dashboard. "The person has to blow into a tube to make sure that there is no breath alcohol in their system. If there is breath alcohol the vehicle will not start," says Assistant District Attorney Kelly Thimm.

The interlock system has sensors to detect whether the breath came from a human instead of some other air source. It also asks for retests while the driver is operating the vehicle. "When a person blows into the interlock device there can be no alcohol whatsoever in their system, its absolute sobriety... period," says Thimm.

Previously, offenders only had to have the ignition system installed in cars registered in their name. Now it has to be in any car that an offender drives. "What we were finding was there were many vehicles that were not registered to the person or they wouldn't register the vehicle so they could get around enforcement of it," says Thimm. Douglas County attorneys are encouraging judges to demand the ignition interlock system on a regular basis. Currently, after the second offense it's optional for judges to enforce the system and mandatory after the third offense.

"My feeling is as a system we need to try to continue to do more and more for the drunk drivers to try and decrease the problem that has increasing over the years," says Thimm. The ignition system records all the blood alcohol samples in an electronic memory. The cost to install the system is approximately 65 to 75 dollars along with a $60 to $75 monthly fee. It is the driver's responsibility to pay these costs. The judge ultimately decides how long the driver has to have the ignition interlock system in their vehicle, but it is a minimum of one year.

3/10 seems a high number ,
what do you think?
