Strength of Schedule, Did you know?

The Vikings appear to be a great team but did you know they have only beaten one team with a winning record.

at Cleveland W 34 - 20
at Detroit W 27 - 13
vs San Francisco W 27 - 24
vs Green Bay W 30 - 23
at St. Louis W 38 - 10
vs Baltimore W 33 - 31
at Pittsburgh L 27 - 17
at Green Bay W 38 - 26
vs Detroit W 27 - 10
vs Seattle W 35 - 9

The Saints have beaten Eagles in Philadelphia, the Giants, at Miami & Atlanta

The Colts have beaten Jax, at Miami, at Arizona, Houston, New England and Baltimore

New England has beaten Atlanta, Miami and Baltimore

So what does it mean? Originally I thought Vikings were better than Saints but maybe I am wrong. Is it the schedule?

What do you think?

well the fact that they went in to pitt and imo should have won...shows me they are legit. those saints wins arent that impressive to me, neither are the colts when you consider how close those were

I agree they are legit and a solid team but thought it was interesting

As far as Saints & Colts - good teams find ways to win and with Manning more than Brees, they will always have a chance

I counted them as a winning record but really only 5-5. Miami's future is bright, this year is just a long practice session for Henne and a measuring stick on what they need to fix for 2010

Well to be fair, Only three teams had losing records when Minny played them, Detroit,St. Louis, and Seattle, though Cleveland was 0-0

We have the Timberwolves. Wild and Gophers here and Jack wants to rain on the only thing that gives Gerk pleasure sportswise

What people tend to forget about that loss at Pittsburgh is that the Steelers had a td called back early in that game on a questionable Offensive PI call that you see those type of plays every game in the NFL and very rarely get called and then Mendenhall fumbled the ball at the Vikes 5 yard line as they were going in for another TD.

Now I personally believe and have said for a while now that the Vikes will win their division, I believe they will make the NFC Championship game unless their coach starts looking like that deer in the headlights once again in the playoffs but I do believe their record is more a byproduct of their schedule. Now give them credit, they can only beat teams that are on the schedule but Cleveland, Detroit(2), Seattle and StLouis are competing for the worst team in the NFL, they had two very dominating wins against the Packers but is that more due to the fact that the Packers OLine is absoloutely brutal which matches up well for the Vikes? Now the other two wins are teams that I put in the next category of good teams, not very good, not great but good teams being Baltimore and SFran. Now in those two games at home as well they needed a friggen miracle play to on the last play to beat SFran and they needed a field goal kicker to miss a fieldgoal on the last play to pull those games out.

Now I do agree the Saints wins are not very much more impressive than the Vikes but I do give them the advantage of being the better team and more importantly if the Vikes cannot take over the Number 1 seed in the NFC and they end up going to NewOrleans in the playoffs I think that will be the major difference for the Saints(unless they choke as well before that and that is still a possibility, I don't think either the Saints or the Vikes are sure locks but better than what is out there in the NFC right now)

Still think Minnesota is the most complete team in the NFC. Doesn't mean they will win it

New Orleans turns the ball over WAY too much, they are like 3rd worst in the league and I still trust Minny's defense more than New Orleans.

Think Minny matches up well vs. New Orleans, but we will see.

its a fair point about strength of schedule

but in the end despite some disparity in the nfl

this isnt the western athletic conference vs the pac 10

its the nfl, and a win is a win...10-0 is impressive no matter how it gets done

so is 9-1

I disagree with this statement. A sign of a great team is a team that can win the close games.

Brees has ALWAYS been turnover prone his entire career. If brett keeps playing like he is they will put up 40+ on the saints defense. AP will run right through them...I think Minny would LOVE to play NO to go to the super bowl

or a team that is catching some nice breaks against inferior opponents, or in the case of the pats, handing them the game

LOL, every team catches breaks during the season, thats part of the game. You don't think NE caught a bunch of breaks the year they went undefeated during regular season? And no one handed that game to the Colts. They made the defensive play to stop NE and then scored to win the game. Great teams do those kind of things...
