Hey all new here to Cappersmall and hope ya all have a terrific week and weekend of picks here is a rundown of how I see this weeks games here goes:
Chicago 22, Detroit 17 Chicago minus 10 The Lions finally got back on the winning side last week, but two straight victories seems just a bit too much to ask, particularly when heading to Soldier Field. Jay Cutler seems to have his act together and that alone should be enough. Houston 24, Oakland 9 Houston minus 9 Now that the Raiders have the 'World's Worst Team' label all to themselves, I thought about picking another upset. But with the way my picks are going, I have to keep it close to the vest. Matt Schaub has thrown for more than 300 yards each of the last two weeks. It says here he'll make it three in a row. Tampa Bay 16, Washington 13 Tampa Bay plus 7 What could the Redskins possibly do for an encore after losing to the Lions? Well, losing to the Buccaneers, of course. Two things that are painfully obvious in Washington are Jim Zorn is quickly going to be out as coach, and quarterback Jason Campbell will be right behind him. Second-year QB Josh Johnson has a big day in his first start for Tampa. Indianapolis 34, Seattle 10 Indy minus 10 The death of the Colts has been greatly exaggerated in this space. Shame on me for betting against any team that has Peyton Manning. But what's really impressive about this group is the defense, which is shutting down everyone it faces. The loss of defensive end Dwight Freeny will impact the Colts, but not nearly enough. N.Y. Giants 45, Kansas City 0 NY Giants minus 9 The more the season unfolds, the more of a believer I'm becoming in the Giants. There's not a team in the league that runs the way they do, and the defense flat-out makes life miserable for the opposition. The only people miserable in regard to the Chiefs is the fan base. New England 24, Baltimore 21 NE minus 2 This pick is more about hope than anything else. If the Ravens get off to a 4-0 start it may be impossible for the Steelers to catch them. Tom Brady still hasn't rounded into form, but perhaps he's getting there. Fantasy-wise he's still killing me. Cincinnati 23, Cleveland 3 Cincy minus 5 Another touchdown-less weekend is in store for the Browns, who again have a quarterback controversy told you it would happen last week. The problem is, Eric Mangini may have to choose between which one gives the team less chance to lose, rather than more of a chance to win. Jacksonville 13, Tennessee 8 Jacksonville plus 3 If you would have told me the Titans would be 0-3 at this point, I'm not sure I would get anything more than laughter out of my mouth. But something is clearly missing. Kerry Collins looks old and slow, and the defense suddenly can't stop anyone, including Maurice Jones-Drew. Miami 17, Buffalo 10 Miami plus 1 Finally, a team the Dolphins can beat. However I must confess I'm less confident in this pick than all the others combined. The fact is the Miami offense doesn't scare anyone, but when T.O. goes an entire game without a catch one has to think the Bills offense is in worse shape. Chad Henne wins his debut. N.Y. Jets 31, New Orleans 21 NY JETS plus 7 I'm officially sold on the J-E-T-S Jets! Jets! Jets. The unthinkable happened last week with Drew Brees failing to throw a touchdown. That was against Buffalo, not a hard-charging New York defense that has arguably the league's premier cornerback right now in former Pitt standout Darrelle Revis. Denver 27, Dallas 22 Denver plus 3 With all the upheaval and drama surrounding the Broncos in the offseason, it's a wonder these guys can put two consecutive good plays together. The schedule has been quite weak, but you can't argue with 3-0. The Cowboys have their own issues, like who the coach is going to be when Wade Phillips gets fired mid-season. Oh, and don't forget the ongoing concern about whether Tony Romo is the right quarterback to lead this team into the future. San Francisco 30, St. Louis 14 SF minus 9 1/2 Forget the 49ers were beaten last week on one of Brett Favre's greatest plays. The view from here suggests they are absolutely for real. The defense, led by Patrick Willis and Nate Clements, can be suffocating. The only question is the health of Frank Gore. But that's about 25 less questions than the Rams have. San Diego 23, Pittsburgh 20 San Diego plus 7 Sad to say, but I have lost all confidence in the Steelers defense. Until Troy Polamalu returns, it's going to be interesting, especially when Pittsburgh is playing a team like San Diego that likes to whip the ball all over the lot. And doesn't it look as if the 2008 draft Rashard Mendenhall, who didn't get a carry last week, and Limas Sweed, who has more drops than BALCO is going to be a bust? Monday Minnesota 34, Green Bay 24 Minnesota 3 1/2 This is the one we've been waiting for. Admit it, whether you're tired of the Brett Favre talk or not, and I am, you're highly intrigued by the showdown. A sneaking suspicion tells me the Packers will leave the Metrodome longing for their old gunslinger. GL to all
