Super Bowl Play from the Great White North

As I have mentioned in the past this is usually the one game that I completely avoid and just watch it for what it is, but this year I had decided before the Championship games were played that if Indy made it and the number wasn't astronomical then I was going to take a shot with the total for this game. Well Indy made it and the total is not that astronomical and with how well the playoffs have gone for me it is worth the risk to take a shot with the over in this game.

NewOrleans/Indianapolis over 56 to win $1500

Indys defense on paper this year has looked much improved but I believe that is more of a mirage than actual great improvement. The more you go through their schedule the more you realize that they played not very many teams who can be two dimensional and rely more on a one dimensional type offense which makes gameplanning alot simpler for. Well that won't be the case this week facing the Saints who are one of the top teams in the league passing the ball with Brees and company but the one thing that gets overlooked with this team is they also have a top 6 rushing attack in the NFL this year and with Freeney questionable at best(and even if he does play how effective will he be) I believe the Saints are going to be able to move the ball and score points. This year more than any other year the Colts defense have really started blitzing on passing downs and if they try this approach against Brees who is one of the best of getting the ball out of his hands and to the right player then I think the Saints will look even better than what I am expecting them to look anyways. Now I am hoping that Coach Payton understands that every possession is important to score and calls plays that way and if he does then I think the Saints will be fine on the offensive side of the ball mixing in the run with the pass against what I still believe is a questionable Colts secondary. The problem for the Saints will be on the other side of the ball and this is why I was really hoping that the Colts made the SuperBowl because I believe Manning and company would be able to move the ball up and down the field against either of the Saints secondary or the Vikings secondary. Favre was under relentless pressure in the NFC Championship game and he tore apart the Saints defense still, well the Saints are not playing at home this week where it was a great advantage for their defense and I don't see any way that Manning doesn't pick apart this Saints defense either. Coach Ryan said it perfectly after the AFC Championship game we tried blitzing, we tried zone, we tried everything and he still picked us apart. Now the Saints may try the blitz idea and like the Jets in the AFC championship game they may have success with it early in the game but it won't take long for Manning and the rest of the offense to find the weakness and if the Saints are forced to go more to a zone type defense with the weapons that Manning has then this could be a very long day for the Saints defense.

As with most overs having special teams and defenses with the ability to score points or at the very minimum flip field position quickly is also something nice to have in your back pocket and both of these teams have this ability especially on the defensive side of the ball. As much as I believe that both defenses are just slightly better than average both defenses also have shown the ability to get a turnover and do something with the ball when they get it and I wouldn't be surprised to see a few points coming from turnovers in this game. And as long as you have Reggie Bush back there returning punts and if I am correct points being scored and kick returns(and this is an area I also think the Saints can take advantage of the Colts kickoff coverage) I once again would not be surprised to see points or at the very least field position come from this third of the game.

So there you have it. I like the over have no feel for the side because I believe that either of these offenses could go off and that gives me enough belief that the Saints can keep this close if not pull it out, but on the other side if I was going to trust one offense a bit more than the other I would trust more in the Colts offense. Really looking forward to this game and hopefully it turns out to be a great game and a high scoring game, LOL!!
