suprised

maybe someone can tell me why:

Panthers draft J. Stewart ? didnt they get that kid from memphis last year + deshawn foster? I understand depth , but every year?

How did Woodson (qb kentucky), and Eirc Ainge fall so far? Both IMO will be starters in this league.

I must say that I am probably the only Panthers fan on here...other than you??maybe?

We took him because we generally keep a power back and a finesse back. Deangelo Williams is a finesse, east west type runner. He is not an everydown back and really has been disappointing overall. He is not the guy to call on to get 3 or 4 yards because he shifts too much. Stewart, 5 foot something, 235 is a bruiser type that still has the speed to break it once he gets some space. He will also be much better in blocking schemes than foster ever was. Deangelo will be our third down back. Its becoming almost necessary in the NFL IMO to have a 2 back system. These guys really take a beating these days and most teams are straying from putting the workload on one back.

This tandem reminds me of the Stephen Davis(bruiser, but with decent speed once he is loose) and Deshawn Foster back when we went to the Superbowl and NFC title game the next year.

Luckily foster is gone, he played well as a third down back with Davis but he is NOT a #1 and we wasted alot of money on him. I think it was best to start with a clean slate at this position. Deangelo Williams will get alot more reps at the start of the season with the experience and the concern about Stewart's toe, but my bet is by the end of the season Stewart will take majority of the handoffs.

Last year we couldn't line up on third and ****ing one and get a yard. The running game was atrocious. Most of this was due to having to play David Carr so we were predictable. Our O line is also paltry. We may have helped by trading up for Otah who is big but is said to have mobility problems....not good in the NFC south. Adding Mohammed, Stewart, and Jake staying healthy we will get back to the NFC title game IMO with Jake staying healthy being crucial.

I thought for the Panthers that the prudent move was to sign Sean Alexander as a free agent with his salary being contingent on performance to add that big back, keep deangelo for passing downs and third downs. With that done they could have traded up to go after Matt Ryan at QB and let Jake Delhomme groom him for a year or two. My wishes obviously did not happen, but overall this was a good draft.

I hope this gamble pays off because we lost our picks for next year to get Otah. Now if we could only sign another decent O lineman and a TE....where the hell is our TE???????
