The Top 10 Things I think after Week 1

Idea stolen from Peter King from SI

My Top 10 things I think after Week 1

1. During the Vikings game, Fox put up the Adrian Peterson's numbers after 30 games vs. Jim Brown's numbers after 30 games. I will say, I tihnk Brown is the best running back in NFL history. Besides the TD numbers, the numbers are remarkably similar

No one punishes a defender like he does. His long TD run yesterday is one for the ages. If he stays healthy and that's a big if with someone who runs like him, enjoy him because you are watching the best running back the league has ever seen

2. Gerk's preseason Super Bowl selections were New Orleans vs. Baltimore. I haven't changed after Week 1. A looming suspension for Charles Grant and Will Smith could be devastating to New Orleans. The one bright side is the divsion besides Atlanta looks very winnable, which brings me to number 3.

3. The Carolina Panthers are done. Jake Delhomme looks like a prize fighter who had his heyday 5 years ago. McCown went down also yesterday. Matt Moore? I don't think so. The disturbing thing being a Panthers fan is how poorly this team plays at home.

There aren't many supposedly good teams that play more poorly at home.

4. No matter who you blame for the debacle at the end of the Cincinnati game, but this doesn't happen to good teams and good coaches. Marvin Lewis, I suggest you put your house on the market. Over/under for you getting fired is Week 7 and Gerk has the under

5. The Jay Cutler era began in Chicago. Does anyone with so much physical talent have so llittle upstairs. He is like the girl in high school who teases you with her looks and personality and when you buy in, you are shot down. If Urlacher is down for a long time, watch out.

Pittsburgh comes in this week. Not easy to go 0-2 in the NFL and make the playoffs, that's a fact. Hard to say it's a must win, but it just might be.

6. I said at the beginning of the year that Arizona would take a fall this year. I am now convinced they will struggle to get to 7-9 this year. They are the 3rd best team in the division.

7. San Francisco and Seattle play this week in which could be a divsion showdown. I said Seattle would be the suprise team in the NFC this year and am even more convinced now. If Hasselback stays upright, that team will win the division.

8. If you don't know the name Patrick Willis, you should. He may be the best young defensive player in the NFL and already may be the best LB.

9. Mark Sanchez is going to be a very good NFL QB, If he doesn't get swallowed up by the New York City limelight. His pocket presence already is better than most QB's in this league. Looks like a battle with him and Percy Harvin for Rookie of the Year.

10. The New York Giant young receivers looked good yesterday, I don't know if I trust them for a whole season. I really don't think I trust Eli Manning. He still does some things on the field that makes him look like a backup high school QB. That defense is very good though.

My bonus non-football thought of the week is it looks like 7 of the top 9 payroll teams will make the MLB playoffs. Something needs to be done there for the good of the game. Just my thought

Will be back next week with Week 2 thoughts

sorry, cant agree with #1...gimme LT in his prime. And even if its not LT, I dont think AP is the best back ever, nor do I think he will stay healthy. Takes way too many hits with his upright running style imo

That's why it's called the Top 10 things I think. I said if his career continues without the possible and probable injury. He may end up being like Gale Sayers and out of the league. I am speaking on potential only.

i'll give you credit, they are better than dumb**** peter king patriots homer

just throwing out some numbers for my boy LT in the best ever conversation

Tomlinson has been the NFL's most dangerous tailback over the course of this decade, averaging 1,521 rushing yards in his seven-year career. He and Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson are the only players to surpass 1,200 yards rushing in their first seven seasons. Also a dynamic receiver, L.T. became the first player in league history to rush for 1,000 yards and catch 100 passes in the same season in 2003 and has averaged 65 receptions annually through his career. He is also the only player in the league to notch at least 15 touchdowns in each of the last six seasons. Already third on the all-time list of rushing touchdowns with 115, Tomlinson is seventh all-time in total touchdowns with 129.

With Urlacher now announced out for the season

Game this week, becomes even more critical. If Chicago loses this week, things could really spiral out of control.

We will see what Bears are made of

I think they lost in the playoffs at home last year and it wasn't close

I guess, I meant more of the last few years

2006 they were 4-4 at home

2007 they were 2-6 at home

Never really been a huge homefield advantage for a team that is supposed to contend for the division title most years.

Thanks Candyman and Uva

I wasn't high on Sanchez, Will be interested to see him against NE this week. Will be a much truer test

The poise in the pocket is something you can't teach or at least not very well. He defintiely has that. He will have some growing pains, but I think he's going to be alot better than I thought.

Great thoughts Gerk, all valid observations.I definately agree on Patrick Willis. This Seattle /Sf game is an early season division playoff implication game.Yeah its early but the winner will be 2-0 in the division. Also great point on the state of baseball. The rich should not be handed the keys to the kingdom so easily.
