Top 10 things I think after Week 9

Haven't been able to post in awhile. The Week 9 edition

1. Is anyone else tired of coaches who don't try to win a game and simply try not to lose the game? Two prime examples are Mike Singeltary when he faced the Vikings earlier in the year when a first down would have iced the game and he runs the ball into the line. 2nd is Tom Couglin from yesterday. NYG get an interception and have the ball 1st and goal at the 4, Get a holding penalty and then run three straight vanilla plays, knowing San Diego will have the ball with plenty of time and a quality QB, only up by 6

Herm Edwards and Gerk want NFL coaches to play to win the game. This other crap gets old fast.

2. Chicago Bears, This is your QB. When interviewed after the game Jay Cutler basically said that moral victories don't cut it anymore, that they have to actually win the game. I am trying to figure out how being down 31-7 in the 2nd quarter qualifies as a moral victory . Good luck the rest of the year.

3. Is NFL FG kicking the worst it's been ever? Every week when the games are on, I see missable FG's all over the place. Kris Brown has a 42 yard FG in a dome to win the game yesterday and pulls it left. Not many NFL FG kickers I would trust with the game on the line. Not enough empahasis on special teams by coaches IMO.

4. How important is the offensive line in the NFL? The Green Bay Packers may have the worst offensive line in history. If you can't run the ball and you can't protect your QB, you are going to win very few games. When the weather changes, it gets even more important.

5. I know it's only about halfway through the year, but there are a handful of teams that have very crucial games to their already slim playoff lives. Green Bay, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, and Atlanta cannot afford losses this week, especially with who they are playing.

6. Is there any player that is more crucial to their team than Brian Westbrook? Philly is a completely different team without him in there. Hard to plan for a good season when you know he's going to miss at least half the games every year.

7. The Dallas rollercoaster has begun again. Dallas fans are touting their teams Super Bowl chances again. How long before Dallas loses a highly winnable game and fans are shouting for Wade Phillips head? Maybe this week

8. The best uniforms in the history of sports were brought out again yesterday when Tampa Bay sported their creamsicle uni's. What happened? Tampa Bay wins their first game of the season. As we all know, when you look good, you play good. It's the first rule of sports.

9. I was having my morning Lucky Charms and when I looked at my milk carton, I saw the Baltimore Ravens defense. Wow, they have looked horrible in alot of games this year. Reputation is what they are living by now, their performance has been subpar. I had them in the Super Bowl, but they can't stop any team when it counts lately.

10. I thought New Orleans and Indy would both struggle yesterday and for much of their games, they did. To give them credit, both came up with victories playing from behind. New Orleans is still vulnerable to a good running attack and Indy's running game is basically non-existent. They both may be their conferences best teams, but there are chinks in the armor.

BONUS THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

If TCU is shut out of the BCS championship picture, it will be the biggest crock of the year. It will happen and when it does, hopefully it's the final straw to get an NCAA CFB playoff in place.

Seriously, I'm gonna raise my kids to learn how to kick a football. They will get a full ride to anywhere in the country, it is so pathetic.

And yes, the Raven defense is completely overrated, reputation only because that secondary is crap

Gerk thats some good stuff. I think you ought to write one of these each and every week. Sad that you left out the Raiders, they so badly wanted to join your list of teams that have no chance in hell.

what would you do gerk if texas, florida/alabama and tcu are all undefeated?

in the current system, what would your solution be?

tcu has a few non conference wins that are impressive, considering its tcu

but is it more of a schedule than a major conference team?

i ask you, looking at tcu's schedule, how much harder is texas' than theirs? i would say not much, but the conference name Big 12, gets them in

Have a 4 team, 8 team, or even 12 team playoff and reseed the teams after the season

Whether they are the best team or not is very debatable, but they do deserve a chance to play for it

Very ironic, that NCAA FB has a playoff schedule for Division II, Divison III etc. Only reason Division I doesn't want to is to disrupt the Pineapple Bowls, Taco Johns' Bowls etc.

texas schedule 10x harder than TCU

doesn't mean they are a better team, but even the down Big 12 is much better than the MWC, esp considering Texas doesn't get creampuff iowa state this year

I might have a plus 1, just one more game at the end of the year, where there are two teams that have a gripe

so an extra bcs bowl possibly....rather than call it the national championship...

add one more and make it national semifinals...I think we can agree on the 4 best

dont disrupt the rest of the bowls...what ya think?

then team #5 is gonna complain that they deserved in over team #4

when does it end?

+1 game only if there are more than 2 undefeated teams. If you have a loss, you have no gripe

I would prefer a 4 team playoff

Just designate two of the existing bowls as the semifinal games, rotating each year among Fiesta, Rose, Orange etc and then extend the season by 1 week and have the National Championship game

very well could be but so is texas

and i'd pretty much guarantee that texas is undefeated playing tcu's schedule

the top 3 teams of the mwc are good, no doubt. But the bottom is just terrible, look at what teams like Wyoming and New Mexico do on a weekly basis.

Big 12 south has baylor, MWC has 4 Baylors or worse

Texas' hardest game was against OU without their QB at a neutral site.

TCU has won 3 pretty good road games, AT Virginia, AT Clemson and AT BYU
