TRENCH REPORT- Week Four O & D Line Power Rankings
TRENCH INDEX - O & D LINE POWER RANKINGS
In an NFL Game there is 60 minutes. Of the 60 minutes on average there is 13 minutes of action. Of those 13 minutes Offensive playmakers are likely on the field for 6:30 and the defensive playmakers are on for 6:30. Now of that 6:30, how many minutes to wide receivers, running backs or tight ends contribute to? Maybe 2:30 each. Of course the quarterback touches the ball for each of the 6:30 making him the most important player on the team. How come all of us almost always assume that the second most important players are the offensive playmakers who contribute just 1/3 of what the linemen do? How come we focus on defensive playmakers because they make three or four big plays a game? How about focusing on the guys controlling the opposing offense? The truth is that football games are won in the trenches. Sure you can say this team has a good offensive line or that team has a good pass rush, but do you really know what your betting on? I have decided to rank the O-Lines and D-Lines based on major statistical categories and come up with a rating and ranking for each team then put it to the test against the point spread. For the offensive line I have chosen the following categories: QB Sacked Per Game QB Hit Per Game Yards Per Rush Attempt Power Runs (Rushes of 2 yards or less on 3rd and 4th down resulting in 1st down or TD) Stuffed Runs (Rushes resulting in zero or negative yardage) For the defensive line I have chose the following categories: QB Sacks Per Game Opponent Yards Per Rush Attempt Pass Deflections Forced Fumbles Opponent Rush Yards Per Game For each stat each team will get a ranking from 1-32. Obviously the team with the lowest number will be the most efficient offensive line and the team with the highest will be the worst. Games where there is the biggest double advantage, Green Bay. Green Bay is the biggest favorite on the board this Sunday. Games that make you question the line, such as Houston favored over Pittsburgh, Houston holds an advantage in both quite handily. The Patriots are at a disadvantage in both, yet they are favored by four. Makes you believe in the power of public perception. Games with the two worst D Lines, Miami San Diego, tied for third highest total on the board with 45.5. Game with the two worst O Lines, Atlanta Seattle, lowest total on the board at 38. The one mismatch that stands out to me, San Francisco with the 2nd D Line going against Philadelphia and the 28th D Line. Major injury/hit concerns with Michael Vick. Should be interesting to see how that match-up plays out. Good Luck in Week Four. |

I don't keep a play by play record. I bet for money not a winning percentage. My bankroll is up about 14% this season between both NFL and NCAA.

There is no play or no play determined by this. Simply just information I find very interesting. The biggest advantage is Green Bay. In my Yards Per Pass article I posted on here, there was also a strong stat backing Green Bay. I like the way Green Bay sets up tomorrow for a load of other reasons, putting them with these, it may turn out to be a play for me tomorrow.
