Vick didn't want to sign with Eagles

When Michael Vick(notes) signed with the Philadelphia Eagles back in 2009, he sat behind Donovan McNabb(notes) and Kevin Kolb(notes) on the depth chart and didn't get a lot of work during the season. Then the team traded McNabb and Kolb got hurt in last season's first game, leaving Vick the space for a major shot of redemption. And he didn't let his team down in that department.
Now the 2010 AP Comeback Player of the Year tells GQ that he didn't even want to play for the Birds. "I think I can say this now, because it's not going to hurt anybody's feelings, and it's the truth," he told the magazine. "I didn't want to come to Philadelphia. Being the third-team quarterback is nothing to smile about. Cincinnati and Buffalo were better options."
However, GQ reports that after Vick had some conversations with Commissioner Roger Goodell and other folks from the league, he was convinced to not select the Buffalo Bills or Cincinnati Bengals.

If I'm Ralph Wilson or Mike Brown, I'm on the phone w/the commish about Vick's claim that the league steered him to Philly. And I'm ticked.

Strength of #NFL means the Vick comments suggest tampering, fixing, collusion, integrity = will likely get ignored nationally #koolaid

I'm eagerly anticipating the reaction of @nflcommish regarding the story that he STEERED Michael Vick to the #Eagles. #corruption.

Read this story on wgr550 this morning, the Bills did have a big interest in him, then he abruptly signed with Eagles. The Commish is from Jamestown, and don't think this is some type of conspiracy. 3rd string behind a veteran and an up and coming starter, I don't think the league wanted him in the spotlight right away. Just another controversy to hear about all season long!!!!

I believe Tony Dungy steered him more than the NFL brass and Dungy wasn't wrong doing it. Vick going to Cincinnati it would of turned out to be a mess like the rest of everything that happens in Cincinnati and if he went to my Bills his career would be over already. The best position was where Dungy steered him and that was towards the Eagles where he was out of the spotlight to begin with, could get his game together and work with two great offensive minds and teachers of offense in Andy Reid and Marty Mortinwig(sp?). Again more of a non story that will cause alot of aggravation for nothing.

Whether or not you want or wanted Vick, or would have signed is irrelevant. Commissioner robbed teams and players of their right to decide.

My guess is that he knew someone in Philly who knew Phillybird and Vick wanted no part of that scene considering the stories he prob heard, makes killing dogs look like rec sport. Guy was legit scared of the city and it's kind.

he's simply stating he didn't want to be buried on the bench... who wants to sit on the bench as the #3??

obv he took what was offered... just b/c you make a choice doesn't mean you like it or are not thankful for the chance...
