Vikings name Christian Ponder starting QB

Not too familiar with this kid, but obviously know enough about Donovan to know that he wasn't getting the job done (like Orton).

This Ponder kid any good? I'm guessing Vikings fans will at least be happy that McNabb isn't starting anymore (like me with Orton).

Vikings brass needs to see what the kid can do now that this season is lost but what a way for the kid to make his 1st start against the defending super bowl champs and only 6-0 team right now the packers. Minn's o-line hurting badly so ponder may be running for his life. Joe webb might also start some games later on if ponder can't lead them to a few wins.

I think the brass were impressed with his two possessions last week in garbage time. He's not going to last long if he keeps running the ball like he did last week.

Ponder is starting because he's mobile, and behind their Swiss cheese O-line a mobile QB is what's needed. The question will be, does he throw well on the run, and does he aviod getting hurt. You know GB will be putting serious pressure on him this week, so he's likely to have a boom/bust type of a week. I bet he busts this week, but like his skill set generally.
