Vikings plummet with Favre news

Vikings plummet with Favre news

The latest news regarding quarterback Brett Favre has caused a seismic change in the NFC odds at BroburySports.com.

The NFL preseason starts on Sunday! You get a 25% Sign-up Bonus up to $500.

Favre has reportedly informed Minnesota that he will not play this season. Coach Brad Childress is claiming to be unaware of the situation, but official news should come out soon.

Childress recently went to visit Favre in Mississippi and wasn’t acting like a coach who would be without his star quarterback. He and the rest of management will surely be angry with Favre for not making up his mind sooner.

The Vikings will now turn to quarterback Tarvaris Jackson. The 27-year-old has 19 career starts under his belt, not including some playoff experience in 2008. However, the Vikings are not nearly as dangerous without Favre, and the odds reflect that.

Minnesota was one of four relatively equal favorites to win the NFC along with Dallas, New Orleans and Green Bay. Now, those three other teams are tied at 7/2, with Minnesota lumped in at 10/1 with Atlanta, Philly, San Francisco and the NY Giants.

Green Bay is gaining the most from this news. Favre spent 16 years with the team, even leading them to a Super Bowl win. The Vikings beat Green Bay twice last year on the way to winning the NFC North. That made many Packers’ fans hate their former iconic quarterback.

Green Bay (5/8) is now the heavy favorite to win the NFC North. Minnesota (14/5) is a distant second, with Chicago (7/2) right on their heels. The path to the playoffs just got much easier for Green Bay and they could be favored to win the conference the next time odds are adjusted.

And while there’s a chance that Favre changes his mind (once again), you can’t count on that right now.

Odds-to-win the NFC

Dallas Cowboys (7/2)
Green Bay Packers (7/2)
New Orleans Saints (7/2)
Atlanta Falcons (10/1)
Minnesota Vikings (10/1)
New York Giants (10/1)
Philadelphia Eagles (10/1)
San Francisco 49ers (10/1)
Chicago Bears (12/1)
Washington Redskins (15/1)
Arizona Cardinals (30/1)
Carolina Panthers (45/1)
Detroit Lions (45/1)
Seattle Seahawks (45/1)
St. Louis Rams (100/1)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (100/1)

Wondering why you are putting so much stock in this 'report' Dr. J? If Favre knew he was going to retire why wouldn't he tell the coach? Chilly has treated him pretty well and the organization has been more than accomodating of his schedule and have not pressured him at all to make a decision. The timing doesn't seem right since he didn't return until 8/18 last year? It seems all the pieces were in place here for him to return, a superbowl calibur team, having the surgery done, and getting the redemption game against the saints to open the season. Not sure why he would announce his retirement to sources on the team but not the coach, nor his best friend on the team ryan longwell? I don't know what the point of chilly lying about it would be if Brett had in fact told him, since it would inevitably come out.

Gunslinger not done, he will be back and the NFL can breathe a collective sigh of relief.

curious to say the least my friend. All day at work i've been pestered by people gloating in his "retirement" despite the fact they haven't named a source and Favre hasn't confirmed it. When the gunslinger does hang it up finally I will remain a vikings fan. I will never forgive the packers treatment of a legend.

Plus rodgers is an ankle grabbing queer

As does vegas apparently with the swings in futures. I'm hoping he isn't done I've been looking forward to the new season ever since the NFC championship, and as I said the timing really doesn't make sense. If he is done it will be a sad day for the NFL.

I agree the timing seems a little off. Its been all about the drama and brett farve all along. If he really is retiring some people are going to have to own up to the fact that he is a head case and he doesn't care about anyone but his ego. In time I will remember the gunslinger but for now I just want him to go away. The jokes on the local radio show are laughable. So now we have people from Greenbay and Minni that hate brett farve. He will go down as the most valueable attention whore in the NFL.
