Houston at Pittsburgh, Sunday, 1:00

Storylines: First-round rookie Rashard Mendenhall (Illinois) makes his formal debut with the Steelers, and fellow running back Willie Parker returns to the field after missing the end of 2007 with a broken leg...

Running back Ahman Green (hamstring) expected to start for Houston after missing the final three games of the preseason...Pittsburgh defensive end Aaron Smith returns for his first meaningful game since tearing biceps in Week 14 of 2007...Texans are 1-3 in their last four season openers...

Houston running back Steve Slaton (turf toe) expected to make his regular season debut with Texans..
.Kyle Shanahan, son of Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan, makes his formal debut as offensive coordinator for the Texans...
Houston signed ex-Patriots defensive back Eugene Wilson on Wednesday...

Steelers were 3-5 in their final eight games last season, including a playoff loss to the Jaguars, while Texans were 3-1 in their final four contests.

The Steelers have won five consecutive regular season openers, and have not lost an opener at home since falling to Baltimore to begin the 2000 campaign.

HOU is 1-6 ATS L7 road games... HOU is 8-12 ATS L20 Sept. games... HOU is 5-8 ATS L13 games as a road underdog of 3.5 to 7 points...

Steelers are 4-7 ATS in September home games since 2000.

Ben Roethlisberger is 44-17 as a starter (37-24 ATS).

This may surprise you, but the Steelers generated only 36 sacks last season

The Texans, who were actually 12th in scoring last season, should be able to maintain a top 10 offense once again, as long as Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson stay healthy.

In the nine games Johnson played in 2007, Houston averaged 25.6 points per game. Johnson is a dominant force who will have to be double teamed.

If Pittsburgh does that, Schaub should be able to utilize some of his other weapons, including an emerging Kevin Walter, Owen Daniels and exciting rookie Steve Slaton.

As for Schaub, I believe he's due for a really good year. Not only does he have a solid group of targets at his disposal, he also looked great this preseason, save for one quarter against the Cowboys
The Steelers Battle the Browns, Eagles, Ravens and Jaguars after the "lowly" Texans.
Despite there being lots of action on the Steelers, the line has moved in Houston's favor.

The Steelers will have to double team Williams on every play, which is a shame for Houston because management neglected to find someone who can play across from Williams on passing downs

The Texans were 8-8 vs. the spread last season, including 2-6 on the road. … Houston has covered three of its last four games but has covered only five of its last 17 road contests. … The Texans have covered one of their last five games as a road dog of between 3.5 and 10 points. … The Steelers were 9-8 against the number last season, including 6-36 at home, including playoffs. …

***Titans are 9-3 ATS last 12 as dogs vs. Jaguars

Jags are 1-7 ATS as division road favorites
*** Titan QB Vince Young is 10-2 ATS as a starter against division foes.

In situations like this, I like to go with what Vegas is telling me to do.

There's tons of action on the Jaguars, yet the line hasn't moved an inch.
In a sense, the sportsbooks are saying, "OK dumb public. You take the Jags. We'll take the Titans. We'll see who wins."

Kramer, great stuff you post up around here, I know what a thankless job it can be sometimes as I do the same thing at another forum. I guess it's a labour of love so to speak. So from my corner a big thanks for your time and effort, always appreciated.
