Week 3 Picks by Chris Schultz
1:00 PM Sunday, September 26, 2010
Detroit @ Minnesota (-11.0) Schultz Picks: Detroit: -------------------------------------------------- If Detroit can go into Chicago and only lose by five, it can do the same in Minnesota. No, there is no Matt Stafford for Detroit, but similarly, there is not Sidney Rice for Minnesota. Minnesota 30, Detroit 20 1:00 PM Sunday, September 26, 2010 Buffalo @ New England (-14.0) Schultz Picks: New England: --------------------------------------------------------- The Bills have defeated New England once since Tom Brady became quarterback in 2001. This is all about points, and coming off the 28-14 loss to the Jets, New England will want to score a lot of them. New England 34, Buffalo 17 1:00 PM Sunday, September 26, 2010 Atlanta @ New Orleans (-4.0) Schultz Picks: Atlanta: ---------------------------------------------------- This will be a very interesting game. The Saints won both games the two played last year, but only by a total of 11 points. And now, the Saints must win without Reggie Bush. This is a risky pick, but... New Orleans 27, Atlanta 24 1:00 PM Sunday, September 26, 2010 Tennessee @ NY Giants (-3.0) Schultz Picks: NY Giants: ------------------------------------------------------- Tennessee lost last week because of its turnovers. The Giants lost last week because of Peyton Manning, and Vince Young is no Peyton Manning. New York 27, Tennessee 19 1:00 PM Sunday, September 26, 2010 San Francisco (-2.5) @ Kansas City Schultz Picks: San Francisco: ---------------------------------------------------------------- The Chiefs beat San Diego in a game in which they were statistically dominated, and then earned a two-point win in Cleveland. Mike Singletary knows this is a trap game for the 49ers after a tough Monday night loss to the Saints and a short week. But he also knows his team could have won that Monday night game. San Francisco 21, Kansas City 17 1:00 PM Sunday, September 26, 2010 Pittsburgh (-3.0) @ Tampa Bay Schultz Picks: Pittsburgh: -------------------------------------------------------- Pittsburgh has allowed nine and 11 points in its first two games. I can't see Tampa Bay scoring many more. It's surprising that the Steelers are only favoured by three. Pittsburgh 20, Tampa Bay 10 1:00 PM Sunday, September 26, 2010 Cincinnati (-3.0) @ Carolina Schultz Picks: Cincinnati: ---------------------------------------------------- Mike Zimmer is a very good defensive coordinator for the Bengals. His biggest fear is getting beat by first-time starting quarterback Jimmy Clausen. Cincinnati showed excellent toughness in its win over the Ravens last week. Cincinnati 24, Carolina 17 1:00 PM Sunday, September 26, 2010 Cleveland @ Baltimore (-10.5) Schultz Picks: Cleveland: ------------------------------------------------------ Baltimore is coming off two physically punishing games. The Browns lost by three to Tampa Bay and by two to a surprising Chiefs team. Baltimore 19, Cleveland 10 1:00 PM Sunday, September 26, 2010 Dallas @ Houston (-3.0) Schultz Picks: Dallas: --------------------------------------------- This is the season for the Dallas Cowboys. Since 1990, when the 12-team playoff schedule began, only three teams that started 0-3 made the playoffs (the '92 Chargers, the '95 Lions, the '98 Bills). Of the three, only San Diego advanced and lost in the divisional final. With many tough games left on the schedule, if the Cowboys don't get it together now, they are done. Dallas 27, Houston 24 4:05 PM Sunday, September 26, 2010 Philadelphia (-3.0) @ Jacksonville Schultz Picks: Philadelphia: ----------------------------------------------------------- Can you imagine the confidence that Michael Vick will have now being named the starting quarterback once again? Vick may have shown himself as a cruel human being, but Andy Reid made the right decision here. Jacksonville, on the other hand, has big quarterback problems. Philadelphia 30, Jacksonville 17 4:05 PM Sunday, September 26, 2010 Washington (-3.5) @ St. Louis Schultz Picks: Washington: -------------------------------------------------------- Both teams are better than anticipated. St. Louis has competed well in two losses, and Washington beat Dallas and took Houston to overtime. Mike Shanahan is one coach I respect to a high degree. Washington 24, St.Louis 17 4:15 PM Sunday, September 26, 2010 Oakland @ Arizona (-4.5) Schultz Picks: Arizona: ----------------------------------------------- You don't know what you've got until it's gone. Arizona is missing Kurt Warner but Ken Whisenhunt's team will destruct less in the University of Phoenix stadium. The Cardinals have to have this one, as they have two tough ones ahead: going to San Diego next week and hosting New Orleans the week after. Arizona 27, Oakland 17 4:15 PM Sunday, September 26, 2010 San Diego (-5.5) @ Seattle Schultz Picks: San Diego: ---------------------------------------------------- The Seahawks allowed Denver to convert 7- per cent of their third downs last week. San Diego, statistically, destroyed Kansas City and scored 38 on Jacksonville. I think the Chargers beat themselves in Week 1 in Seattle and in Week 2 also. San Diego 27, Seattle 20 4:15 PM Sunday, September 26, 2010 Indianapolis (-5.5) @ Denver Schultz Picks: Indianapolis: ------------------------------------------------------- This is a tough one to call because I think Denver is going to compete well all year long. Eddie Royal had 13 good catches in two games for the Broncos. The Colts' last road game was a disaster in Houston. That will not happen twice. Indianapolis 27, Denver 20 8:20 PM Sunday, September 26, 2010 NY Jets @ Miami (-2.0) Schultz Picks: NY Jets: --------------------------------------------- The Dolphins' passing game has yet to be seen, whereas the Jets saw a confident Mark Sanchez at quarterback. The Dolphins have won the past three games, but the Jets have won eight of 12 in Miami. New York 17, Dolphins 14 8:30 PM Monday, September 27, 2010 Green Bay (-3.0) @ Chicago Schultz Picks: Green Bay: ---------------------------------------------------- Even though the Bears are 4-1 on Monday Night Football, and Jay Cutler looks like he is meshing with Mike Martz, the Packers still have a better quarterback and downfield passing game with Aaron Rodgers. Due to the injury to running back Ryan Grant, Mike McCarthy may opt to open it up even more. This game will be based totally on mistakes, and I think Green Bay will make less of them. Green Bay 20, Chicago 16 |
