Week #8 by Chris Schultz
1:00 PM Sunday, October 31, 2010
Miami @ Cincinnati Schultz Picks: Miami: ---------------------------------------- In Miami, there is a 100 percent emphasis to winning with tough football under Tony Sparano. I get the sense that Marvin Lewis is having some decisions taken away by ownership. They are certainly not focused 100 percent on playing tough, winning football. 1:00 PM Sunday, October 31, 2010 Jacksonville @ Dallas (-6.5) Schultz Picks: Jacksonville: ------------------------------------------------------ I am very surprised that Dallas is favoured by almost a full TD. Yes, Jacksonville does not travel well. But Jon Kitna was average at best replacing Tony Romo for the Cowboys. I think Dallas wins, but take Jacksonville to cover the points. 1:00 PM Sunday, October 31, 2010 Washington @ Detroit (-2.5) Schultz Picks: Washington: ------------------------------------------------------- Although Detroit may not be much better in terms of wins and losses, they have been consistently competitive this year. Same goes for the Redskins. All four of their wins have been by 4 points or fewer. Take the points. 1:00 PM Sunday, October 31, 2010 Buffalo @ Kansas City (-8.0) Schultz Picks: Kansas City: ------------------------------------------------------ The Chiefs are on pace to run for 2,824 yards this season, and have given up only 4 turnovers in 6 games. That's outstanding. The Bills are improving. Ryan Fitzpatrick looks very comfortable at quarterback. But will he get a chance to shine? The Bills are giving up 174 yards per game on the ground, so the Chiefs will control the clock – and the scoreboard. 1:00 PM Sunday, October 31, 2010 Carolina @ St. Louis (-3.0) Schultz Picks: St. Louis: --------------------------------------------------- The Rams have won 3 of 4 at home and their only loss was by 4 to the Cardinals in Week 1. These Rams can still win the NFC West. They have already beaten Seattle once in a division game. To win the division, though, they must win games like this. 1:00 PM Sunday, October 31, 2010 Green Bay @ NY Jets (-6.0) Schultz Picks: Green Bay: ---------------------------------------------------- The Jets are rested coming off the bye week and already have five wins against good competition. Green bay is 4-3, but the three losses have all been by three points – two in overtime. I think the Jets will win, but the packers will cover. 1:00 PM Sunday, October 31, 2010 Denver @ San Francisco (-1.5) Schultz Picks: Denver: ---------------------------------------------------- This game is in London. Both teams are going through tough times and the season has already become a grind for them. Now they have to go all the way to London?! The 49ers have allowed 11 TD passes, and Kyle Orton should take advantage of that. I have no idea how Denver managed to lose 59-14 to Oakland last week. Take the Broncos. 4:05 PM Sunday, October 31, 2010 Tennessee @ San Diego (-3.5) Schultz Picks: Tennessee: -------------------------------------------------------- San Diego is a tough team to figure out. They average 422 yards per game on offence and allow only 244 on defence. That's good, but their record is only 2-5. Tennessee is just a tough team. Take them to cover. 4:15 PM Sunday, October 31, 2010 Tampa Bay @ Arizona (-3.0) Schultz Picks: Tampa Bay: ------------------------------------------------------ As the Bucs QB, Josh Freeman has already had five fourth quarter comebacks. Tampa's run defence must improve, but they already won twice on the road – against Carolina and Cincinnati. Arizona is likely to start rookie Max Hall again. Larry Fitzgerald sure misses Kurt Warner. 4:15 PM Sunday, October 31, 2010 Minnesota @ New England (-5.0) Schultz Picks: New England: ------------------------------------------------------------ Brett Favre has had a tough year on and off the field, but let's give him credit. With a confirmed stress fracture on the ankle, he did not miss a play last week. Tom Brady has won 23 consecutive home games as a starter, and he is healthy. I like those odds. 4:15 PM Sunday, October 31, 2010 Seattle @ Oakland (-2.5) Schultz Picks: Oakland: ------------------------------------------------ It has been a long time since I have seen the Raiders favoured in a game. Maybe I am getting too optimistic too fast, but the 59-14 win over Denver should give everyone more confidence than they've had in a while in Oakland. 8:20 PM Sunday, October 31, 2010 Pittsburgh @ New Orleans Schultz Picks: Pittsburgh: --------------------------------------------------- One team has been consistent (Pittsburgh), and one team has been inconsistent (New Orleans). The Steelers have lost only one game this year, by three points to a tough Baltimore team. The Saints lost at home last week to the Cleveland Browns by 13, and two weeks prior fell by 10 to Arizona. The Saints do have some great deep threats, but the best in the NFL this year might be Pittsburgh's Mike Wallace. He has five catches of 40+ yards and averages 25.3 yards per catch. 8:30 PM Monday, November 01, 2010 Houston @ Indianapolis (-5.5) Schultz Picks: Indianapolis: -------------------------------------------------------- Both teams are coming off the bye week, and both teams needed it. The Colts have 12 starters either that are injured, with several of them being listed as out, including TE Dallas Clark, who is gone for the year. That's a huge loss. But the Texans are 0-8 in Indianapolis, losing by an average of 15.6 points. Arian Foster did rip apart the Colts defence in Week 1, but history shows that the Colts compete at a higher level the second time around – and with more energy at home. |
