Why is 1000yds such a big deal?

When they played 14 games thats 71yds per game.

Now with 16 games, thats only 62.5 yds per game.

They need to bump the "good year" to 1100 or 1200yds per year.

Agree it is the most overrated number in Football. 1200-1300 is a good year

well when you achieve over 1000 yrds that not only shows consistancy but also durability as well. then you take it a step further how many yrs in a row can you achieve that level of performance.
it is simply a measuring tool when talking about running backs. consistancy over time is mostly what a player would want to achieve imo..

well thats if you are healthy over the course of 16 gms bro. the bar is set at 1000 but you can strive for more than that ofcourse. durability has to come into play as a factor at some point..

Actually a good point here and the reality is that not as many backs get 1000 yard seasons becasue of injuries. Most teams need to have two ball carriers now, the defense is beastly. Per game it may not seem like much, but if some one had say 8 100 yard games in a season, thats big. Teams pass so much more now too.

ron i understand what you are saying about bumping up the # to 1200, but truthfully that is already being done in the form of individual bonuses. that extra is $ to the player and if its not in yrds then its in sacks or passing tds or % of fgs over 38 yrds or, # of catches in a season, no fumble clause or something like that..

Most of that list missed significant time due to injury and never repeated, furthering my point.

forgot Mike Anderson and Samkon Gado

strengthening my RBs are a dime-a-dozen argument, save for a select few (Chris Johnson, Adrian Peterson, Thomas Jones)

rons point was its not such a big accomplishment to do it once or twice

sure a streak of 1000 yd seasons is a testament to durability

but a one time wonder 1000 yd RB is nothing really
