Emergency Ward

Being that the Bengals' twice-a-year Super Bowl against the Steelers is coming up on Sunday, the banter has officially begun with Hines Ward's season-ending hit of Bengals LB Keith Rivers last year.

And Hines had some Hines-like thoughts about the incident when asked if he would do it again, given that the hit resulted in a new rule outlawing such blows:

The change, commonly known as the Hines Ward Rule, includes a 15-yard penalty for offenders. And the receiver said he's willing to break it on Sunday when the Steelers play the Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium.

I'll still hit him," Ward said Wednesday in Pittsburgh. "I'll just get fined.

Iron Mike Likes the OVER as well

Mike Tomlin spent time between the Super Bowl and training camp studying offenses in the NFL and found one he would like the Steelers to emulate: the New England Patriots.

"I think the great teams are capable of winning in many forms or fashion and playing to their strengths on a week-to-week basis based on a matchup," Tomlin said yesterday. "I thought a great deal about that, frankly, this offseason.

"You study a team like New England, and they walk into a stadium offensively, and week to week they can be whatever they choose to be. They can beat you in three wides, four wides, three tight ends, and it makes them very difficult to prepare for and ultimately beat."

(Da dit da dit da, Im Lovin it)

5 out of last 6 Pitt/Cin games scored 37 or more (34pts on 12/2/2007)

James Walkers Picks, If you care

Posted by ESPN.com's James Walker

So here are the predictions for Week 3:

Cleveland Browns (0-2) at Baltimore Ravens (2-0), Sunday at 1 p.m. ET

Analysis: The Browns have played the Ravens tough of late. But this is the widest talent gap I've seen between these two rivals in a while.
Pick: Ravens, 28-6
Pittsburgh Steelers (1-1) at Cincinnati Bengals (1-1), Sunday at 4:15 p.m. ET

Analysis: The Steelers haven't lost in Cincinnati since 2001, and Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is undefeated in the state of Ohio. It's hard to pass up those two trends.
Picks: Steelers, 23-20
Last week's record: 2-2

Overall record: 5-3

Walker covers the AFCN for ESPN for those who don't know.

The days of grinding it out on offense are over for the Steelers.

Going into today’s game against the Bengals, Pittsburgh has had 78 pass plays and 45 rush plays this year. With the Steelers becoming more pass-oriented, Bengals cornerbacks Leon Hall and Johnathan Joseph will need to have solid games.

“To be honest, it’s a little bit strange, but because it’s a pass-happy league we’re used to it,” Hall said of Pittsburgh’s change in philosophy on offense.

The emphasis for Hall and Joseph will be on stopping Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes, the first two Super Bowl MVP-winning wide receivers to play on the same team at the same time.
