Fatigued Heat are Feeling the Pace

The Chicago Bulls beat the New Jersey Nets 84-73 with a strong defensive effort at the Prudential Center on Thursday evening.

Chicago point guard Derrick Rose had another big night, scoring 21 points. I have run out of superlatives for this young man and I will be stunned if he does not win the MVP award this year.

This was the eighth win in a row for Chicago who now lead the Eastern Conference by half a game over Boston. If the Bulls continue to play at this level they could easily finish the season with the best record in the Conference and secure home court advantage in the East.

On the same day that Chicago beat New Jersey the New York Knicks smashed the Memphis Grizzlies 120-99 with a dominant performancey. Reserve guard Toney Douglas was on fire for New York scoring 29 points. Douglas made an incredible nine three point shots and was the most effective player on the floor.

The Knicks have moved in to sixth place in the Eastern Conference and look certain to make the post-season.

With less than a month to go in the regular season there are some crucial games with playoff implications taking place this weekend.

On Saturday LeBron James and the Miami Heat play host to the Denver Nuggets. The Heat have struggled in the past couple of weeks and have fallen 3.5 games behind Chicago in the Eastern Conference.

I think the main reason for their poor recent form is fatigue. The Heat do not have a deep bench and as a result the starting five have had to play a lot more minutes to compensate for the lack of bench production.
